Lack of publicity over England's shops charging 5p a bag

Had to laugh today. Was at the self service checkouts in a Morrisons (one I use frequently - no trolley chains!). They seem to have changed the "unexpected item..." message to a new one... "surprise item detected".

That would be my Waitrose carrier bag then? :rotfl:

I'd keep a shallow cardboard tray for those, as putting them in any bag could spill the contents or squash the pies.

I like the bit about asda investigating :-)

I do question the woman though. She ordered 15 items and expected 8 carrier bags! That's less than 2 items a bag.

She said she hadn’t made a direct complaint to the Boston store from where the order was made due to the cost of a call effectively nullifying the 40p rate.

Managed to speak to the paper though. As one does.

It was posted on the towns facebook page , they are always sniffing for stories and taking quotes off facebook , i guess they messaged her, very lazy reporting.

It doesn't say that - she expected 3 or 4, which seems sensible. She separately made the mathematical leap that at 5p a bag, 40p covers her for 8 bags.
