Large sign in the entrance to my local supermarket advising of this - impossible not to see it.
We'll soon get used to taking our bags - works fine in our local Aldi and M&S Food.0 -
There will be load of vents in the first few days/weeks about the iniquity of paying 5p and then it will all settle down and those who are organised will take their own bags and those who are not will pay 5p per bag.0

Nothing to do with organisation. I re-use plastic bags to clear up after our dogs and am quite happy to pay for them, but can buy them cheaper than 5p.
I also prefer single use bags for shopping as it helps to prevent cross contamination of food. Food poisoning cases have increased since similar rules were introduced in the US as people are using a bag for fresh meats one day, then using the same bag for cooked meats or salad items the next."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -

How much cheaper than 5p can you get bags for?
As 5p is such a small amount of money I couldn't really be bothered with the hassle of trying to find a cheaper source of carrier bag!0 -

I get smallish sized carriers from an Amazon seller for £1.50 per hundred so 1 & 1/2 pence each.
Whilst these are smaller than the average supermarket ones, they are perfect for dog mess and with a couple of GSD's, an order of 100 bags doesn't last too long.0 -

And yet people used to buy meat before disposable carrier bags and shrink-wrappings were invented. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
Living in Scotland I can say that most people very quickly get used to taking their own bags with them.
I'm on holiday in England from tomorrow so will be stocking up on free bags!Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

My butcher seals meat individually in a small polythene bag. They are all then placed together in a paper bag.
Tesco /Coop operators again supply an ordinary polythene bag for chicken to avoid cross contamination of other shopping.
People just need to take normal hygiene precautions .0 -

the average independent off licence buys bags at approx. from 1p each from the main cash n carries , those are the plain white/blue etc and suitable for holding / lifting 8 x cans of beer (500ml each)
just checked our invoices , we buy a "heavy duty" bag the cost is £20 per 1000 , this is 2p each , delivered0 -
There will be some unhygienic smelly bins, as not everyone will buy bin liners (or carrier bags) and so toss unwrapped rubbish into the bin.
Newspaper could be used, but then that won't be available for recycling.0
