I know, but it's going to end in tears with some of the horrid, stuck up, selfish and ignorant folks that I have the 'pleasure' to deal with. The shop manager and security have banned some unsavoury people for their horrifying treatment of my colleagues including myself. One time I finished my shift and left the kiosk. So there was one colleague left. Man grabbed my arm shouting in my face 'You will serve me b!tch' I was given a nasty bruise. Can see a few more being banned in the next few weeks.

These customers think they have every right to get a free carrier bag. If the Queen visits a shop after 5th October, she will be charged 5p too if she wanted a bag.

You can't project the fact that you work in a sh!thole onto the rest of the UK. For most people it's a non-even that will just become a normal part of shopping. No drama, no abuse. Which is probably why the majority of shops feel that 2-3 week is plenty of time to prepare their customers.

To be quite frank it's been a non event in NI, Wales and Scotland..but then when we get to last of our fellow UK people. [STRIKE]they[/STRIKE] a few appear to struggle with it and turn it into a crisis....Why?

i presume there is no charge for paper bags, i remember Safeway used to have those to pack groceries in, could the supermarkets switch to paper ones ?

Paper bags are ok, until it rains...

People in Wales and Scotland are still pinching the shopping baskets. If they are spending like £30+, they have issues with forking out 5p per £7-10. Using that figure as that is what I can fill my bags for life with.

My work sells newspapers and many customers want a carrier bag just for the paper. Buying The Sun for 40p with a carrier bag charge has increased the price by 12.5%. These customers ask for a new carrier bags every day for years. I doubt some will change.

Plus once the charges are in place, it will be cheaper to buy bin liners and doggy poop bags.

  • Noticed Sainsbury's this morning had removed plastic bags from the tills and were heavily promoting the bags for life near the tills.

I don't think the legislation is quite so certain.

The Government's guidelines, which have been linked to many times on this thread, state:
    Dealing with the proceeds

Once you’ve deducted reasonable costs, it’s expected that you’ll donate all proceeds to good causes.
