I'd like to think we could look forward to prices coming down then as the bags have never been "free", but built-in to the cost of the goods.
Keep hoping, it never happened in Wales, Scotland or NI.

As they were probably regarded as legitimate business expenses they would have been written off as a tax loss so nothing changes

That's why I use my Sainsbury's bag in Morrisons, my Lidl bag in Sainsburys and my Waitrose bag in Tesco. :D
    OMG!
That's far too much hard work to me to prove a point.

I have a stash of 'bag for life' and ust grab the nearest ones as I go out the door.

I'm on holiday at the moment with a few from NI on the tour

They brought the subject up about bags. Even some clothing retailers have stopped issuing bags full stop. One of my fellow members, his son was best man at a wedding earlier this year. The independent suit shop stopped doing suit carriers about a couple of months after the introduction of the charge.

It was pouring rain and his son, went to a pound shop and bought suit carriers for the lot of them.

Surely, bags to protect special clothing should be exempt!

Surely the retailer should be the one responsible for catering to their customers?

It will be interesting to see if the 3p lidl bags will remain at 3p. they are heavier than the 70micron limit so in theory they should stay the same.

It's a mandatory tax per bag but the money doesn't go to the government instead the shop is meant to give the profit to charity.

Only if the bag is under 70 microns thick, if the bags are over that they arnt included.

  • Suddenly it's become somehow important, it's been introduced successfully in NI, Wales and Scotland. Now we've got the remaining UK laggards being baffled?

I've been into Morrisons, Tesco & ASDA in the last week & I have not seen any signs about this ...

There will be a lot of confusion on 5th Oct if the stores & TV etc dont start promoting this!

(I'm terrible for taking bags in the car & leaving them there when I go into the shop ... )

Why? aren't English people capable of understanding things when told.

I don't seem to recall that in the other 3 areas there was great deal of publicity and very little confusion.
