Could we not organise a massive petition to allow families at certain times of the year not crucial to exams/Revision/Sats etc to take a holiday. surely before Xmas and maybe up to March.
2 weeks out with parental involvement of catchup studies could suffice. Or even After Sats/exams June? onwards. The family and tourist industry would benefit financially.
Also the children would benefit by experiencing other cultures and adventures
Eric.

I agree (I'm a teacher) but only pupils with an excellent attendance and behaviour record should be permitted to miss term time for a family holiday.
Most our pupils who meet this criteria are given permission for time of in term.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
Yes anyone can, and get enough people to sign to get the government to debate it. Only problem with it is the ruling party thinks {rightly or wrongly} that education is very important so after talking it through the idea would be defeated.
It is a shame for families with children at school having to pay stupid prices for a week or two's holiday trapped by the term holidays but even though I agree with your thoughts I do not think it is a win for families.0 -
Ah yes, that well known cultural destination of Benidorm, the adventure of never leaving the all inclusive resort ...
Your plan is one big fail, all it would do is increase prices for the allocated periods. The only winner would be the tour operators.0 -
In short, you want the school holidays to be two weeks longer?0

Yes you could.eric_ollerenshaw wrote: »Could we not organise a massive petition to allow families at certain times of the year not crucial to exams/Revision/Sats etc to take a holiday. surely before Xmas and maybe up to March.

Here you go - just to get you started:

As an aside the example of a petition is hilarious:
I'd sign that one.Example: Make wrongly describing a casserole with a pastry lid as a pie a criminal offence

Everyone knows the term times, everyone is also well aware of the cost of holidays during school holidays - none of it's hidden. With all due respects you CHOSE to have children, so why should you abandon the consequences of that choice?Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

I wouldn't sign it sorry.Never again will the wolf get so close to my door :eek:0

What about allowing my wife (a teacher) 2 weeks off so we can have a cheap holiday as well?I am not a cat (But my friend is)0

Hold on a minute. Are you saying that childless people like me will not be able to avail of cheap flights anymore during term time?
Me No Like That At All.... lol
I time my hols for when the children are AT school. The peace and quiet without screaming kids all round is total bliss. Please do not upset that for me. Thanks.0 -
Don't students sit exams in January?0
