Balance transfer to Amex chargecard (not a credit card)

Hi all
Does anyone know if you can do a balance transfer from mbna (or any other credit card to be fair) to an Amex card that isn't a credit card (the ones you have to pay in full every month?). I thought I had got an email telling me my statement had generated so bought 4 flights, so could get the travel insurance, but now the cash will come out on 5 September, but I don't get paid (and get my bonus) til end of September! So considering doing a balance transfer but not sure if mbna will allow it.. any suggestions greatly received!

Why would you want to transfer a balance to the Amex if you will then have to pay it off in full? You may as well just pay the MBNA card in full and save the fee.

If you mean transferring FROM the Amex though, a lot of providers can't do this due to the usual 15 digit Amex number. You'd need to check.

sorry maybe that is the way I explained it, but it from the mbna to the amex, ie transferring money from mbna to pay off the amex. I wondered if anyone had actually done this

You'd need to check with MBNA.

I've done a balance transfer from an AmEx Gold card to a Tesco credit card.

I would have thought you can.
However, if not... then MBNA offer a money transfer at a slightly higher transfer fee.
So you could transfer the money into your bank account and pay the Amex of that way.

I'll be doing the same with my Amex & MBNA card next month.. so fingers crossed.
  • AmEx do give the option of moving a chargecard balance to an outstanding balance carrying interest to most card holder subject to credit check.

APR is 19.9% so not good but if its only for one month its probably better than a 3% BT fee

    Ditto.

I can confirm that Barclaycard doesn't allow it as their system doesn't recognise the 15 digits.
