Breaks "free trade rules" and is therefore not possible.

...I would have it that if a manufacturer breached the ratio they would have a £2000 selling fee per car for their cars sold in the UK. The result would be that the UK manufactures by value at least 80% if what it uses.
It could mean that we manufactured 2 million cars for export and imported 2.5 million cars. It could mean that we manufacture 80% domestically and import 20%. Its more flexible than a import tariff

The reason it's a stupid idea is your failure to understand the difference between "a manufacturer" and "we". If "we manufactured 2 million cars for export and imported 2.5 million cars", then everything is hunky dory and no selling fee is imposed.

But there are lots of car manufacturers that don't make cars in the UK. Thus whether or not you impose a selling fee on imported cars, will depend on how successful the likes of JLR and Nissan are in exporting cars. And you won't know that until after the fact.

You can't say the cyber nats are the 'odd nutter'. They have their own website, run by someone who seems to think he's part of some kind of Internet clergy, based from that hotbed of Scottish freedom fighting, Bath.

And their own nutty newspaper. Admittedly even at 50p it is barely reaching 0.3% of the Scottish population. But it still all points to a nutty bag of nuts. Rather like the forum hpc.co.uk.

    http://www.thedrum.com/news/2015/01/27/nationals-circulation-slumps-below-20000-issues-publisher-predicts-general-election

Jeremy on the other hand would rather do without the support of rampaging extremists who are mean to other people, even if it means he doesn't win.

    What a gent.

Give it time, he's only been leader a few weeks...and someone will set up a website called Corybnisgod.com. Which 1000's of Corbyn fans will congregate and flock to in droves to slag off the newspapers like you do here. Et voila.. you'll have your very own rampaging extremist website too.:)

Corbyn will distance himself of course ( as do the SNP from Wings ).. but he'll still be associated and apparently responsible for every single comment that ever appears on it. And believe me, the right wing newspapers will trawl through daily, in fact they'll probably employ someone to do it 24/7.. to check for any 'vileness' appearing. It's already happening on Twitter with comments from 'Corbyn4leader' type twibbon tweeters. All they have to do is voice mild annoyance when someone states that Corbyn will NEVER be PM... and Andrew Neil or similar will retweet the comments while gleefully telling their 50k followers that they're blocking 'yet another' Corbyn follower for 'abuse'.

Is early days yet. You'll be a rampaging extremist yourself in no time. And Corbyn doesn't need a newspaper. He already has the Morning Star.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.
But why should I give up, when it all seems so stupid ?

Ah yes, the voice of reason. In today's paper:

    - Nasty Party Ideology Pits Person Against Person
    - Handful of Tories Select Rich Toff
    - [Strapline] The stunning political events of recent weeks have the cruel and complacent ‘elites’ running scared
    On a lighter note, sport:
    - Whatever Happened to the Workers' Game?

    1) No it wouldn't.
    2) Why no just make better cars? As soon as you distort the market like you suggest, manufacturers will keep on sucking on the nipple rather than standing on their own two feet and getting on with designing good cars and running a successful company.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Ah yes, the rampaging extremists are now Corbyn's Labour supporters. That didn't take long did it....( ie Corbyn's getting the blame ). I think this happening right now outside the Tory conference
Kate McCann Verified account ‏@KateEMcCann Reporter @owenjbennett just been spat on. We're now backed into corner by angry protesters shouting he deserved it
Duncan Chriscoli ‏@DChriscoli 14m14 minutes ago @KateEMcCann @DPJHodges @owenjbennett Uncle Jeremy's disciples carrying out his instruction of polite politics?
Former Spad ‏@ExSpAd 12m12 minutes ago @KateEMcCann @DPJHodges @owenjbennett welcome to the hopefully short Corbyn era. He attracts the very worst in politics

Oh, and there's been an egging too.

Oh, and there's been an egging too.

I just took a bunch of headlines from Mr Corbyn's recent employer from the current website. No delving into the weird stuff (of which there was plenty in the 1989s and 90s IIRC) just all taken from the front page of the website.

I don't think Mr Corbyn has asked anyone to spit on a Conservative. I have no doubt that in a mob some of his supoorters would do so. He is very much of the 'any means necessary' crowd if not espousing that view himself.

When Malcolm X said that he had a very real grievance. A bunch of middle class lefties probably less so.

I look forward to the sneering and whinging in The Guardian when the riot police go in to preserve order. It is perfectly reasonable for a mass political party to have an annual conference without being assaulted, I'm sure you agree.

Of course I agree.. and it seems to have been journalist's ( plural there's been a few ) that have all been spat on.

    http://order-order.com/2015/10/04/3-journalists-spat-at-outside-tory-conference/#:uWB1j6Q_TJz-EQ

But it'll all be painted as Corbyn's nutters and laid entirely at his door. That he can't 'control' his supporters, either online or offline. Very damaging and unfair. I've seen this show before. ;)
The march WAS huge though. Norman Smith was saying there seems to be a real 'anti-austerity' movement developing. I don't think it was the best idea to have it the same day as the Tory party conference though. Spitting on journo's hardly the best way to gain a sympathetic hearing either.

Jeremy will have to send another bout of 'be nice' emails and Facebook posts out tonight I think. Before addressing the organisers tomorrow.
The “protest” is being organised by the People’s Assembly, with Corbyn himself set to address them tomorrow.
It all seems so stupid it makes me want to give up.

But all that happens is that everyone else puts in place the subsidy and the world ends up in exactly the same place as previously only with car companies setting one Government off against each other in order to seek rents. In the end car companies become rent seeking organisations rather than car making ones.

My thinking was that if everyone put it into place it would be a good thing in that the result would be that most nations are not big net exporters or importers of cars that a lot of production would be domestic

Its all nice to say....those nations that don't make cars should set up their own auto companies and make fantastic cars and win orders like that but the market is complex and entry is very difficult

Is there? More people went to watch Arsenal play today than turned up to protest.

Well I guess there's football, and then there's protest marches. For a protest march. It was a pretty big turnout.
