Labour is and will continue to be an example that running things by committee and consensus does not work - typical (well intended) left wing traits that are just impossible to work with. Just like a large public sector you end up with a large, slow, inflexible, bureaucratic machine that deliver little and does it very inefficiently. Too many competing interest groups all out for themselves.
Labour's ineptitude in this regard extends into how they run government - the public sector would swell, cost rocket, efficiency dips and delivery suffers.
Alot of the problems stem from the fact that alot of labour leaders, and leaders within the key stakeholder groups have never had real jobs in the private sectors and have only ever lived in the world of deputy chairing sub committee delegations reporting into the pan party policy strategy group sub delegation committee.Left is never right but I always am.0 -

I guess this was quite wise in retrospect ( the author goes on to say that this doesn't mean that the splits aren't there, just that all will be played out behind closed doors ).

Corbyn needs somehow to marry his grassroots support with those in power within the party. So mabye he's playing a longer game than anyone is giving him credit for ? At the moment he's just coming across as a 'mediator'. A pragmatist who wants to endlessly 'discuss' things and come to a 'consensus'. However, at some point quite soon.. he's actually going to have to 'lead' and set out red lines on a few policies.. before his grassroots give up on him imo.
I agreed on the sense that Corbyn needs to demonstrate leadership skills and if he does not do that soon he will be off. But I don't agree that he is a pragmatist, able to settle his own opinions in a way that would work rather than what he would like. The wave of enthusiasm that brought him to the Labour leadership did so on the perception that he was steadfast on the views he espoused and would not flip if he came under pressure on them.
To coin a phrase, if he flips he's damned, if he does not flip he's damned. If his views had been less extreme he would be OK but because they are extreme (extreme left), he is all set for continuous criticism and is set to go. IMHO of course.Union, not Disunion

"He aims to boost growth and prosperity" ... but how exactly? We're told by the left that austerity (really, not borrowing too much) is bad for economic growth but they never actually come up with a real answer for the alternative. I guess the one answer is MOAR DEBT? Fake it if you can't make it?0

Growth that comes from the government throwing away money that they've effectively borrowed from future generations is false growth inspired by politics and vanity, and I'd rather have no growth that pretend growth.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -
Jeremy sent a Facebook message around today reminding everyone not to descend to the level of personal insults, and to oppose all forms of cyber bullying.
He is a nice chap.
If only the swivel eyed, saucer mouthed, ranting right wingers, trumpeting discord from their Tory owned news outlets, would be as decent.
Or the appalling Scot Nat cyber psychos.
All a complete shower, the lot of them.0 -
Mass nationalisations of entire industries are proposed and that's not a move to the left? !!!!!! would be do you think.
As for Mr Corbyn being 'nice', I honestly don't care how 'nice' my politicians are. They need to lead and run an effective Government. Whether or not they bring my Mum a nice cup of tea each morning is neither here nor there.0 -

Presumably he is trying to curtail the excesses of left wing gutter trolls.
I bet he does not succeed in that either.Union, not Disunion
