Latest polling on Corbyn. It seems he's made a modest start at best. Unsurprising given the going over he's had from the press I suppose.

Quote "By 50% to 29% 2015 Labour voters expect Corbyn to do well as leader." :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Deluded.
Everywhere else he struggled – only 28% would trust him on government spending and cuts, 27% on tax, 24% on immigration, 23% on the economy, just 20% on defence. It almost goes without saying that hardly any Tory voters would trust him, ditto for UKIP voters (some have suggested Corbyn could win back votes from UKIP, perhaps he could, but the poll here shows what a challenge it will be). More worrying here is the sizeable chunk of people who voted Labour in 2015, but don’t trust Corbyn on key issues.
Labour’s performance at the last election was poor to begin with and Corbyn needs to hold onto those Labour voters who are currently saying they don’t trust him (he can try to replace them instead with non-voters, Green converts and so on… but then he’s trying to attract new voters just to make up for those he may be losing. Labour need to keep their existing voters AND attract new ones.)

And all we hear from Corbyn and McDonnell are apologies. They clearly hold some pretty rank views and beliefs.

The Iraq war has haunted Ed & the Labour party. But this will be nothing when compared to the constant referencing to Corbyn & McDonnell past. Clearly they have with some terrible links with the IRA & Islamic terrorists. This will haunt Labour over the next 5 years.

Personally, I'm ashamed that 2 people who hold such vile views have risen to such high office in this country. It makes me feel sick.

If you bothered to do any research into what actually happened, rather than just believing what the Daily Mail tell you, you would probably enjoy a less nauseated life.

Personally I am glad I can walk around London without the risk of IRA bombs killing me, and Jeremy Corbyn and McDonnel were a part of the peace process.

McDonnel has already said on that he wishes he had chosen different words, but he said what he said because the peace process was about to come unglued and he was desperate to save it. He also said that if it saved one life he would say it again.

At least he is standing by his convictions unlike the venal, hypocritical two faced murderers who routinely order drone strikes against civilians in Afghanistan and Iraq, but get the right wing press seal of approval because they scrape their noses on the ground in front of the Queen at the right time.

If you believe all that then you really are deluded. These are people who actively supported the IRA and plenty of other terrorists. I know them, there were plenty of them around all University/Poly campuses in the 1980s. I remember many of these "Lefties" cheering the day of the Brighton bomb. They made me sick then and they still do.The thing McDonnell said about assassinating Thatcher - that is normal talk from people on the left. They really did wish Thatcher had been blown up in 1984 and they really do say things like that - and not as a joke.

A lot of the left wing students in the 1980s walked around wearing arab scarves like this.

They seem to be happy to support people who believed in stoning women and gays. I never got it and I certainly can't believe two of these idiots are now in charge of the Labour party.

The laughable thing about them all is that they all had to think and believe the same things - pro United Ireland, Pro Palestian Liberation, Pro Miners, Anti Business, anti capitalism, blah blah blah. There wasn't a unique thought among them.

Oh and they were always angry. Angry, angry, angry. And negative. Unrelentingly negative. What a way to live to never to see the joy in life and to be forever angry and negative. SAVE YOURSELF ruggardtoast - you are on a path that will only ever lead you to a life of despair and poverty :)

Anyway, If he is standing by his convictions why is he apologizing?

And I ask you again why are you so angry?

Correct me if I'm wrong but you seem to have a massive chip on your shoulder?

    Where did that come from?

I'm not trolling you. I would just like to know and understand why you are so angry and what is so wrong with your life. How old are you? Are all your peers this angry or are you just special?

Didn't you use to be a Lib Dem supporter or am I confusing you with another poster?? Are you a life long Labour voter?

Studies have shown that people usually attribute their own success to their own hard work and skill, and attribute their own failures to bad luck.

In contrast, humans attribute other people's failure to bad character, laziness and poor life choices.

Many boomers are quids in from life times of pulling levers and packing punnets in factories while house prices spiralled around them. But when they talk about their lives you'd imagine they were referring to Warren Buffett.

I sold my Dad's 4 bedroom house in the North West for £50k 2 years ago (after he died). He'd lived there for more than 50 years. I don't think he was quids in.

There are plenty of affordable houses in the UK but most of them are in working class areas where people like ruggedtoast (for all his socialism) don't want to live. Personally I would haven't any problem living in a working class area.

When posters like ruggedtoast complain they can't buy a house, what they actually mean is they can't buy a house in a middle class area next door to state schools full of middle class kids

FYI, I'm Generation X by the way.

    go on
tell us what actually happened and in particular the key roles that Corbyn and McDonnell played in the peace process.

I am particularly interested in their role in persuading the Prods to come to the peace table.

You can tell us how you celebrated the Birmingham, Omagh and Warrington bombs that, in McDonnells view, so clearly helped the peace process along.

No they weren't. They were engaging in Common Room politics. They had no influence nor did they seek influence.

They saw the IRA, who proposed a united communist Ireland, as fellow travellers. They were too cowardly to kill for themselves but were happy to see people killed in their names.

Let's be 100% clear. The UK's shadow Chancellor wanted to kill the PM. That's what he said.

I loathe socialism, but have to admit it – Corbyn has economic policies that could win an election

When it comes to economics Corbynistas are the mainstream, and free market fundamentalists like me are the lunatic fringe

Why wait to apologise until now? New era of politics. No way. This bunch are worse than anything we've had in 25 years.

yes indeed, he could have apologised before it became a political embarrassment which might have indicated it was honest

in any event he didn't withdraw his support for the IRA killings, but rather regretted the 'offence ' that was caused : a huge difference.
