Who wouldn't take industrial action to protect their own rights?

Rights? I don't give two hoots about my rights, and far fewer about yours.

I don't take industrial action because I've taken the time (against the strong and learned advice from my school peer group!) to acquire a few skills. Employers value these skills (or at least I do as an employer) but I've never had to interview for a job myself as employers come looking for me.

So you can stamp your feet and bleat about rights, and wave your silly placards, or you can upskill and have employers beating a path to your door.

    Your choice.
I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.

Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.

Not everybody can do that and if they did you would find yourself having to fight for your rights.

My experience is similar to this. When your skills are in demand it really is easy to go from meagre earnings to high earnings in a short time frame, the heroin equivalent for recruitment firms.

Probably 1000x more than give it a go under the currett free lunch system.

That's great. I struggle to find people to bring in at junior levels and mentor, so seriously, bring it on. I'll train them, mentor them, and teach them valuable high level skills, but I cannot and will not teach them the basics they should have picked up doing A-levels and degrees.

I have done this in the past with Youth Training Scheme people, and my one serious success brings joy to my heart to this day, but despite my best efforts, most were a waste of fresh air.

Do you not find that these A-Levels and degrees, particularly in IT and mathematics, aren't up to standard anyway?

I've worked alongside many newcomers into the industry with qualifications coming out their ears and sometimes basic concepts elude them. In one situation there was a woman with a degree in computer science, numerous Microsoft qualifications who didn't know about Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V who I was mentoring as her team leader. I felt vindicated at that point as I'd advised the director not to employ any of the candidates put forward for the role, he ignored me anyway.

Others don't know how averages work, recently when I suggested that you can't give a customer an average of monthly averages as some kind of overall yearly average they looked perplexed. Really basic stuff.

What are they teaching at schools these days? How to pass an exam or how to actually achieve? I'm guessing the former.

(I just wanted to point out that the latter example wasn't in the IT team, although it gave us all great joy, quite sad but I take joy where I can get it these days)

    .

So employees are just there to accept what you tell them they can have?

You would sweep all employment rights aside?

You would not bother to provide a safe working environment?

Hitherto you have not given me the impression you are a monster.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

I almost horizontal with surprise to learn of your struggles relating to young people.

I can't imagine what the problem is... Must be them.

Am not going back to read all the push-me-pull-you's which probably populate this Thread, whose title 'Corbynomics: A Dystopia' chimes perfectly well with me.

However, I am a lifetime Labour voter of a certain age and have spent some time researching non-corbyn NEC candidates.

Voting closes this Friday, 5 August.

I am glad to have found this group:
    http://www.progressonline.org.uk/nec-election-2016/
-whose list accords largely with those I'd read about and noted.

I would have liked to include Eddie Izzard, but know that his dynamic will always hold strongly and is its own force for good.
