He's a North London legend. Islington LOVE him. He has the magic dust which almost all politicians don't have.
Discount him at your peril.0 -
Vote for me I'll fix everything, the nhs will be better everyone will have a nicer home you will all be richer and ill take from the rich tax evading evil corporations.
Breath of fresh air
Fact there is no substance behind making any of it happen is irrelevant I guess - it sounds good to the IGNORANTLeft is never right but I always am.0 -
How should we pay for the Syrian migrants that come here? Should evict people from council homes? Cut benefits for UK citizens? Print money? Reduce the health or education expenditure.
Lots of things would be nice to do but all comes at a cost and a trade offLeft is never right but I always am.0 -

Things do come at a cost but surely the people fleeing war deserve and require that people step up to help.
Europe ex-Germany (and Australia for that matter) have had a pretty shameful response from the politicians. We all need to help these people and that will come at a price.0 -
Fair enough; Syrian families can move into the private homes of people who do not fully occupy their available bedrooms and whose pensions are over 1000/month per person.Left is never right but I always am.0

Tent Cities are the way to go probably. These poor beggurs don't need the lap of luxury, they need a reliable source of food and water and people to stop killing and raping them really.0 -

It's completely off topic but Syria shows how doing nothing has consequences. Tony Blair had this right - if we aren't willing to enforce foreign policy when diplomacy fails why do we maintain such large armed forces.
On the other hand I'm seeing an awful lot of fit young men fleeing war and less women and children. If these young, fit, resourceful Syrians aren't willing to fight to make their country a better place why should anyone else?0 -

What if we provide tent cities in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey but the Syrians who come from a background level of poor Europe with often good education decide that a future of unknown length in a tent city with a country that may be a caliphate when the war is finally over is still less of a prospect than a new life in the UK - should we let them come. Odds are they will be hard working, young and motivated to succeed and the UK will benefit overall and only the unskilled who have their wages held back and those who have to pay more as housing is further rationed will suffer....I think....0 -

Once peoples immediate needs have been secured they very quickly start to think about wants.
Hence rejecting the safety of Hungarian camps and aggressively attempting to reach Northern Europe where a life beyond a tent city beckons.0 -

I suspect that has more to do with the welcome that they feel that they will get in Germany versus anywhere else. It seems to be the only country that wants them.0
