it would seem to me that the vast majority of the people are single young men
only a very small minority seem to be women or children
impossible to say which 'side' the single young men were on or whether they were combatants
certainly few seem poor and all have mobiles and well informed, money for fares etc so certainly aren't the poorest from their society.
they are all now safe and are in a western society : however the struggle is to find a way to the lands of free money rather than personal freedom from tyranny
I probably would do exactly the same in the same circumstsnces0 -
Fascinating to hear the audience cheering Corbyn last night. In his argument with Cooper he almost convinced me too.

Corbyn is [STRIKE]completely bonkers[/STRIKE] too ideological, but he's right about PFI. It's a crazy way to finance schools and hospitals. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -

Me too, although I'd like to think that I'd wait a reasonable time before I started lecturing Europeans about "my rights" as a women migrant/refugee did on the TV news this morning.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -

This cry of, "Where's the money going to come from?" is going to haunt Mr Corbyn. Just privatising utilities ex-telephones is a huge distance north of a hundred billion. Mr Osborne or Ms May will be looking at Mr Corbyn in a few years asking him where the several hundred billion pounds he has promised to pay is coming from.0 -

Most don't, Germany seems to be the destination of choice.
The UK government policy of monetary assistance on the ground and taking genuine asylum seekers from camps bordering Syria seems a sound one to me.“Britain- A friend to all, beholden to none”. 🇬🇧0 -
I suspect that has more to do with the welcome that they feel that they will get in Germany versus anywhere else. It seems to be the only country that wants them.
so on one hand you're saying they are feeling rape and murder surely any welcome would be true relief...
I feel that the true people who need our help are the ones without the means to flee, and by concentrating our efforts on the one's who've made it, the ones who cant leave will be forgotten.

The UK has provided £440m in aid to Syria in the last 3 years, providing over 12 million food rations (that's 30 days supply for 12 million people).
While I agree the sight of a drowned boy is terrible, don't forget that there are millions of Syrians who cant flee, who need even more support, they might not be on the front pages of the papers, but is their suffering any less deserving?0 -
It's completely off topic but Syria shows how doing nothing has consequences. Tony Blair had this right - if we aren't willing to enforce foreign policy when diplomacy fails why do we maintain such large armed forces.
On the other hand I'm seeing an awful lot of fit young men fleeing war and less women and children. If these young, fit, resourceful Syrians aren't willing to fight to make their country a better place why should anyone else?
Wasn't the problem caused by us unstabalising the Region using military action in the first place combined with e fact that we failed to offer any proper well considered 'peace action' afterwards.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0 -

Biggest chance of being offered a new passport and tax code so they can get on with their lives, together with a tolerant and rich society to work in I guess.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0 -

Lots of things would be nice to do but all comes at a cost and a trade off
Young, fit, migrants make us richer. They always have.
True refugee who's home land has been totally torn apart by idiots do even better, they identify with their new home with zeal and purpose.
My only issue is how do we find the ISIS nutters in the mix.Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.0
