How much does average hen night cost?

If you only contact each other through FaceBook that makes it a bit less awkward. Just tell her online that you can't go.

Is the price the average price for a hen do? Depends. A lot of bridezillas expect their female companions to actually go abroad with them for the hen do (Dublin seems to be a popular choice for drunken hens and their entourage) and the cost comes to £hundreds.

I'm probably going against the grain a bit here, but I take the stance than just because someone is getting married, why should I be out of pocket? I wouldn't pay £100 even if it were a close friend. The person doing the inviting should foot the bill, in my opinion.

Because it's a party thrown in honour of the bride by her female friends and family. I can't see any reason why she should foot the bill for everyone, it's a party on her behalf. However, I also don't think it's fair that guests are landed a bill of potentionally hundreds of pounds either. Surely in most cases there's a happy medium.

OP, I don't think the figure you've been quoted is excessive, and probably is around average, buts that just for your entertainment and like you say, you've then got to add on accomodation etc. As she is not a close friend, if I was in your shoes, I would be politely declining and suddenly remembering that I "had something else booked for that day that I'd forgot about"!

I'm inclined to agree with those who say she's just invited you to bump up the numbers.

As a bridesmaid, I was involved in the planning of our friend's hen do. We had a weekend in the city, a cabaret show, cocktail class, and bar visits too of course. For anyone who wanted to stay the whole weekend it cost £140, I think. I'm glad I was pregnant and not having to pay so much in the share of drinks, because that was easily £150 per person over the whole weekend! Also there were train and taxi fares.

Any hen do I've ever been to has been arranged by the bridesmaids, or friends/family - not the bride. We've paid for limos, strippers, the hen's meal, sometimes even little presents (cheap, cheerful and optional). People pay their share of the event because they know what it entails, but the bride usually hasn't been aware of the plans so isn't expected to cough up lots of money when she is already trying to budget for a wedding.

With the example hen do above, some people decided to come for one night and go home after so they didn't have hotel costs or some of the other expenses, which was fine - there was a way to cater to most budgets. Some hen/stag parties are weekends away with flights to arrange and days to take off work, which are a bit more unfair if some friends can't attend.

OP if you feel it's a bit much for someone you haven't seen in years and aren't attending the wedding, don't feel bad about turning down the hen do. But if you can afford it, it could be a great night out? :)

We don't have it that easy tbh, We are required to do the stag do and the last one I went to didn't leave me any change out of £1500.00, presents, day itself so all in told cost me around £2000.00 plus the other half's outfit that I think was around £300.00 on top.

I agree with this. I'm going to a stag do this weekend in Eastern Europe which is costing me about £500, plus I'll then have the cost of the wedding as well. Most stag events are abroad these days and span a weekend.

I know one guy who for his stag is spending a week in Vegas and it's costing the attendees £2k each. Thankfully I don't really know him!

Did you work in an all female place?

My friends father worked in logistics and trucks where there were 18 men and only 2 women. One christmas they hired a female stripper and the female colleague left the party (other one didn't go). I can imagine if I was the only female there then I'd find that embarrassing.

    Nope, a bingo hall! :rotfl::rotfl:

It was an after-bingo show that customers could buy tickets for. In the three years I worked those nights I had to deal with fights, snobby strippers and a girl who had a heart attack!

The most important aspect is to be honest. Tell them, "sorry I now can't afford to attend after factoring the 'extras' (accomodation, travel etc.). Sorry to disappoint and hope she has a lovely wedding. Have a lovely time at the Hen Do too."

Oh my God, what would you do if you had, say 5 or 6 friends getting married.

These stag and hen dos are really getting out of hand.

But if men already have a suit, surely women must already have at least one dress? I know my wife does. I don't think you 'need' to buy a new outfit, people just 'like' to.
I agree - it wouldn't occur to me to buy a new outfit to attend a wedding, unless I'd been asked to be matron of honour or something.

    ^ ^ ^ This. Absolutely.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • Bit odd that you're not being invited to the wedding, only the hen do! Decline.

On the pricing front, I'm organising my hen do at the moment, and it's £100 for a whole weekend. £100 for just one day would seem a bit excessive... I also won't be inviting people I only have contact with via facebook!

£93 is too much in my opinion, I would msg and say "look I didn't realise how much it would be, Im sorry but I really can't afford that as well as travelling/a hotel/drinks/food on top" - I wouldn't expect someone to pay 93 quid to attend my hen do! I'd feel mortified for having to ask people to pay 20 quid. Maybe thats just me tho!
