DD had a meal at the local Italian £25 then bride bridesmaids and MOG and myself went for afternoon tea the next day £25 plus a cocktail making class with food £30 so £80 each plus some drinks and transport. I do know people who have gone for a week's holiday which must cost loads more. If you back out and it upsets the bride how much of a loss to your social circle would it be?

It depends on what the plan is for the hen do.

Last hen do I went to cost £50 for dream boys tickets (which was rubbish by the way) with a set meal included.

The one before cost me near enough £200 including train tickets, spa and overnight stay, but that was a weekend away though not just one night out.

I hate hen parties to be honest as I've never been to one that I've actually enjoyed. Going out with a bunch of rowdy women is not what I call fun.

Rampant Recycler I've been Money Tipped!
I'm currently planning my sister's hen party. At the moment I've found a deal in Blackpool for £120 per person which included hotel, breakfast, evening meal, private booth with some free drinks and queue jump to all clubs and bars. Although I know if I plan it myself it would be cheaper, plus I want to take her to Funny Girls (unless any of you have been and said it's rubbish?)

I second AubreyMac, the dreamboys are rubbish. They would get booked at my old work once a year and I've never seen such utter tosh.

Did you work in an all female place?

My friends father worked in logistics and trucks where there were 18 men and only 2 women. One christmas they hired a female stripper and the female colleague left the party (other one didn't go). I can imagine if I was the only female there then I'd find that embarrassing.
  • Personally, I wouldn't be going to a hen in these circumstances. It doesn't sound like you see each other regularly or spend a lot of time together - especially if it's going to inconvenience you or is for an activity that you're not interested in.

If you're not actually invited to the wedding then I definitely wouldn't bother!

No, not invited to wedding - excellent point. Beginning to dawn on me I was probably asked to bump up numbers. Will have to find a way to politely decline...maybe suggest taking friend out for a meal/drink locally instead.

    I wouldn't be going.

Although there is a while until the weeding, are you sure you're not invited.

Gosh if people are spending these sort of amounts (excluding £25pp that's bit more reasonable!) I shudder to think what they're going to be spending on the wedding.

You're not even invited!? That's actually horrendous! As far as you know she could just be making our numbers to get a cheaper deal, or even worse, charging people extra to make a cheeky profit on the side!

I'd be telling this phoney friend where to stuff her hen night, pronto!

Why would someone you're not even friends with any more invite you to her hen party? My guess is she's trying to bump the numbers up to get a set price.

I don't like hen parties at e best of times, especially the sort where you don't really know anyone there other than the bride, if I were you I'd say something has come up or you can't afford it.

When you add it all up as a female guest, you have hen party + gift + outfit, possible overnight stay somewhere and having to take time off work it makes weddings very expensive, men have it slightly easier in that they generally already have a suit but we're talking hundreds of pounds just to go to someone's wedding.

We don't have it that easy tbh, We are required to do the stag do and the last one I went to didn't leave me any change out of £1500.00, presents, day itself so all in told cost me around £2000.00 plus the other half's outfit that I think was around £300.00 on top.

Don't get me wrong I have been on cheaper ones but even still didn't get away with less than £300 plus for a stag do and wedding.
