I've been to Mums this morning as the people came to measure the windows she wants replacing, then when I got back ds computer has arrived (again) - it had been sent back as it wasn't working, anyway it's now all fixed and he's a happy bunny :D That's him and his mate sorted for the day ;)

I checked the oil in the car when I went out and that's fine, so that's one more bit crossed off, I am going to pop to the bank in a minute and pay in my cheques. I've also got the clean bedding out ready to change my bed. After that I need to start doing stuff for the train trip.

Postie brought me my updated tax credits stuff today so I can budget properly for the year ahead again now too :T

The window people have come back to me with the quote and Mum has booked them in to get them done, so she is pleased about that. I've been to Sainsbury's and got some bits to keep us going until we go away. I also got a few bits to take with us.

I've emailed about another 20 places asking for raffle prizes, fingers crossed someone says yes! It's a bit of a thankless task isn't it Amber :o Thank goodness for email though or this would be costing a fortune. Tomorrow I might nip into work and print off our letter andd then I can deliver it through the letterboxes of all the shops on my street, hopefully that might drum up an offer or two :)

The plan for the rest of today is to potter for the next couple of hours, take the rubbish out, hoover (again!), change the bedding, ds write his thank-you notes, have a bath and sort out my feet (feeling neglected), then tonight have some time planning some more of our route and maybe another go at raffle contacts, while keeping an eye on the Bournemouth score (our last pre-season friendly) ... almost time for the season to start again, can't wait :j

Forgot to mention, when I paid in the cheques earlier I picked up a book in the charity shop - it's the story of the Gandy brothers, for anyone not familiar with them they are brothers who became orphans because of the Boxing Day Tsunami in 2004. They have since set up their own charitable foundation, whose motto is Orphans for Orphans, which is doing amazingly well and operates in several countries now. Theirs is such an inspiring story, please have a look at their website if you don't already know them. Anyway, their book isn't that old and it was in the charity shop window, I don't think it's even been read as it's immaculate. I will read it cover to cover on the train and then will donate it to our school library as I believe it's such a great story to teach our kids :)

    Thanks Beanielou :)

One of the companies I contacted yesterday has got back to me saying they will give us a raffle prize :j It feels like Christmas when I get one of those replies :D

Today I am popping into work to print off our letters, I can deliver them later this evening. I also must must must get on with more detailed planning of our route - I know the rough plan and have booked the accomodation but really need to look a little closer at it all :o

Other than that the flat is fairly clean and tidy, the weather is looking good (so far) so I will just see what else the day brings :D

It's been a productive morning so far; I've been into school and printed off 200 letters ready for dropping through letterboxes, then I went to Tesco and returned some uniform I'd ordered for ds that was way too big (£12 back on my card), I also popped to the train station and reserved seats on various trains, I have planned our routes now for Saturday - Wednesday with seats reserved where possible. I also booked a Pizza Express for the first nights dinner (I had vouchers for Christmas that I've kept hold of). I may look at Thursday / Friday later or leave that until tomorrow.

  • Hi, Benbenandme. I have been reading this thread with great interest from over here in the U.S. Congratulations on your progress toward your financial and health goals. I hope you and your son have enjoyed your summer holidays. If you have a chance to make it stateside on a future school break, you will find lots of like-minded frugal people in the frugal state of Indiana and at Elkhart Mechanics dot com. Good luck to you and all the other posters with your progress toward freedom from debt.
  • Hope you have a lovely hols. Just wondered if you collect Nectar points as there is a deal on to spend 1000 points and get 2 Pizza Express classic pizzas vouchers - you can also use 1000 for 2 Vue tickets too. Both vouchers last till end of September so is a very good deal but expiring soon. We used the pizza ones last night and saved almost £20 on the bill.
