Should solar discussions be moved to the Energy board?

I said no such thing, I suggest you go back to the initial post and re-read it. Perhaps even "quote" what I said instead of paraphrasing it? You'll have your answer then and won't have to keep trying to ruin the thread by taking it off topic.0 -

Where have I ever said anything close to this or stopped anyone expressing an opinion? Indeed I have repeatedly asked Martyn and Eric to stop taking the thread off topic so that other people can comment on the suggestion? It's interesting you point the finger at my 'behaviour' on the thread in the same breath as you tell blatant lies. I'd suggest you look at your own behaviour and modify it?
How about discussing why you think moving solar to its own board is a bad idea, instead of just attacking me?0 -

I've been quoting you from the start, please see post #13 but that didn't get an answer either. As far as FIT payments are concerned, I don't have a problem with subsidising renewables that benefit everyone. I'm opposed to subsidizing renewables that benefit just the owner of the renewables via reduced electricity bills.
Since everyone (via the grid) benefits from domestic PV systems (via export or offset) in the same way that they benefit from supply side generation, then your argument appears false, and I've been asking you ever since to justify it.
You keep saying that this is your thread, and you made a claim in the OP, so take ownership, and responsibility and justify your statements.
Anyway, I did say that I would retire from this debate, so I should keep my word.
I'm not being sarcastic - all the best to you, and hopefully we can have some more friendly discussions in the future about renewables and green issues in general.

            Hi
We've been through exactly the same argument loop before ....
In a previous incarnation of the debate the protagonist became abusive to a number of other members and was rightly PPRd .... the profile of the recent exchanges is so similar that it's, let's say, eerie .... some individuals expend so much energy on chasing the win and getting their own way that they simply seem to lose touch with reality and retreat into closed minded arguments of desperation, mainly based around illogical repetition & selective non-contextual quoting .... shame really, probably find that such individuals never got to play competitive sport and learn how to take a loss one minute before enjoying a friendly pint and a chat with the opposition the next .... Oh well, calm down Z, as they say, you can learn just as much from participating in ballet or any other non-competitive form of exercise ....

Oh I don't think martyn should be banned for asking the same repetitive question, 11 times now by his count, despite having the question answered in the very first post on the thread. I agree that he can't seem to let go though. I think you're right - he has to go for the win and have me say that I've decided that fits are not unethical due to the strength of his argument. He can then go on to wear down some Christians into admitting that their belief and moral structure is also wrong, because he says so, and have them convert to atheism.0 -
I posted a thread on the site feedback board to discuss whether solar energy discussions should be moved to its own 'solar' sub board, rather than remains in here where it rather swamps any other discussion.
Given that feed it tariffs are not ethical (the poorest in society paying a disproportionate amount in green taxes so that the wealthier can install solar) and that most people instal solar as an investment vehicle rather than to be green, shouldn't it therefore be in a more appropriate forum?
This would then leave this forum clear for real green and ethical money saving discussions.

I had solar panels installed not because I am wealthy (far from it in fact). I had them installed because I wanted a GREENER and more ETHICAL way of living. I use some of my GREEN generated leccy in my home during the day and also divert some of my GREEN leccy to my hot water tank. I also export some of my GREEN leccy to the grid. All GREEN AND ETHICAL I am sure you would agree!!!
I paid a fair amount out of my hard earned money to have this GREEN and ETHICAL lifestyle. And thankfully I am rewarded in the way of FIT payments for my commitment and efforts in achieving a GREENER and more ETHICAL way of living.
This is my argument for anything solar to remain on the GREEN and ETHICAL board.

Should solar discussions be moved to the Energy board? ...
Although I can understand the reasoning and the logic, there's an overwhelming question as to motive.
My original view was neutral towards the proposal, but I've been pulled more towards maintaining the status-quo by a number of the arguments posed related to renewables energy generation being environmentally both green and ethical, it's also my belief that the question of the ethics of any form of subsidy is comparatively irrelevant.
There seems to have been much made about the dominance of pv discussion on the G&E boards, I see this as healthy, welcome and, in a way, unavoidable considering that the majority of new threads are opened for pv novices to discuss their own requirements or issues, however, as we all know, many pv threads also discuss related issues such as biofuels, heatpumps, insulation, solar thermal, heat recovery, windpower, electric cars, LED lights & TVs etc, in fact almost anything which could help reduce energy consumption has been discussed on a pv thread somewhere ... then there's the old favourites of Nimbyism, the severn barrage, climate change and, of course, the British fixation - the Weather ...
I've not counted the number of members who've been involved in the thread, but it seems that whether they be old-timers or relatively new to the forum, there's a strong consensus on the question ... so I'll add my reasoned opinion to the majority and, for what it's worth, say 'No'.

Shame you weren't GREEN and ETHICAL enough to pay for it yourself, rather than having me and others chip in or ETHICAL enough to let your unused solar go to the grid rather than your hot water tank (which is an appalling use of electricity).0 -

Why are you now having a go at me? Oh yes I've just clicked. Martyn has retired from the thread so you have decide to pick on someone else. Cheers!!!
That just goes to show that YOUR aim on YOUR thread is not to discuss where solar chat should be on the forum but to vent your anger at anyone of us that have installed solar PV and are being rewarded for it.
I am sorry but I fail to understand why diverting a little of my generated electricity to heat my hot water is an appalling use of it. Surely it is greener for me to do that!! I could turn my immersion heater on myself during the day if I wanted to but as I have a useful gadget to do this for me why would I have a dog and bark myself????. Diverting a little of my GREEN electricity is all part of my GREEN and ETHICAL lifestyle. Somehow you just don't get it do you?
For those of us that have solar PV installed and export electricity I see no reason why we are not rewarded for it. Maybe if you had had them installed yourself we would see less of the green eyed monster in you!!!
Instead of venting your anger at yet another solar panel owner I feel it would be more appropriate if you get back to the subject of the thread you started or did starting the thread have a hidden agenda for you????????*3.36 kWp solar panel system,10 x Ultima & 4 x Panasonic solar panels, Solaredge Inverter *Biomass boiler stove for cooking, hot water & heating *2000ltr Rainwater harvesting system for loo flushing *Hybrid Toyota Auris car *RIP Pingu, Hoppy, Ginger & Biscuit *Hens & Ducks* chat thread. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php?t=52822090 -

What a laughable statement.
I also heat my water with my diverter for free, rather than use my oil boiler to do the job.
When the tank is hot diversion flows back to the grid so my ethical electricity can benefit our planet.pvoutput.org/intraday.jsp?id=39350&sid=359520
