I just popped into Mr S and there was some YS corned beef. 400g, basics range, slices, normally £2.50, but marked down to 64p so I had to buy it, because of this thread..... now I'm thinking "what on earth were you thinking??"
It says "Use By" today, so it's CBH tomorrow.... probably a microwave version rather than a SC version. With baked beans, no doubt..... and, due to the vast quantity, I'll be eating that until the weekend0 -

I would not worry about quality. Even with M&S basic ranges they tend to be better than the other supermarket basic ranges.
If I had been there, I would have snatched the packet out of your hand. :rotfl::rotfl:The more I live, the more I learn.

It was Mr S, not M&S. I don't shop at M&S ..... full of posh people jostling for caviar and Moet.
If you'd snatched it from me I'd have said "OI!!" and biffed you over the head with my basket! How rude!!
There was a 2nd packet, I did consider taking it and freezing it .... but then I thought "you've not cooked with corned beef for years, what makes you think you'll want it so much you can chomp through TWO packets?" so I left that one.
I'm eating it now .... right now. It's much tastier than I thought before I started. I kept trying to talk myself out of making it as I thought "this'll end in tears", but then I forced myself and it's tasty. Trouble is .... it's a HUGE batch I'm struggling through and it's only 1/4 of the packet!
By the time I'd cooked 1/4 of it, the total weight of the dish is 750gramsWhich is a VAST quantity!
EDIT: I am now on the outside of what was a very tasty, but massive, portion. 750 grams down, 2250 to go0 -
