I buy a tin now and again but as I live alone I buy the bigger one open it cut in half and freeze half ,that way my tin lasts a bit longer.
I can get a third of my half tin sliced and dipped in batter, fried up wit an egg and a sliced cold tomato.
Another third sliced thinly and used in a sandwich based meal at lunchtime, and the last third of a tin diced and tossed in either a salad or some pasta
So if I can buy a tin at £2.00 I can streetch it to six meals for me for a couple of quid. You can tell I grew up with rationingseriously its possible to make a meal out of very little.Sometimes my small portion will be used as a filler for a jacket spud with some grated cheese un top also. When streetching food out its the bits that go with it that help, lots of salad or vegetables pad out the meat or a small bowl of rice pud with a desert sppon of ice cream or dollop of jam pad out a small meal and fill you up.Or to be really OS back in the days of rationing pud would sometimes just be bread and jam
:):)
I can't imagine actually cooking with corned beef, apart from hash. When we have it occasionally it usually goes in sandwiches or with a jacket potato and beans/pickles, either of which means a meal for well under £1, which is quite cheap enough for me.:o0 -

I love corned beef, especially with new potatoes, cabbage and mint sauce (a combination my non-cook Dad dreamt up once when my mother was away). I would def. put in my store cupboard but isn't it awfully bad for you - full of fat etc.?Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

A caff (it's not posh enough to be called a cafe) I go to has corned beef, egg and chips on the menu. I really like the sound of that, but it sounds so bad...0

I thought that the lidl half price mince, turkey and pork are £4/kg or less when they're on a lidl half price weekend - maybe I've got the maths wrong. I'll have to double check. And at least that gives me the impression it's a bit less processed than corned beef, which doesn't look like meat to me - it's handy for a quick meal, but doesn't strike me as being very nutritious (not that I've checked a nutrition break down for it, so could be wrong). Also I look out for reduced short dated fresh meat and freeze it, that's usually £4/kg or less (that's the figure I aim for).0 -

Why do you think fat is bad for you'? The latest findings suggest quite the opposite and that we have been very badly advised by successive 'experts'.
If there is a problem with corned beef (assuming you aren't bothered by the red meat scares) it is more likely to be with sodium nitrite, the preservative more or less universally used with canned meats.
Personally, I take the view that unless I live on the stuff, it is unlikely to be a problem.0 -

Its only bad for you if you permanantly lived on it,but as a cheap easy meal once in awhile its fine. Believe me I grew up with war-time rationing and survived the unspeakable things that the local butcher offered, often my late Mum never questioned what went into the sausages or what the meat was ,she was only too glad to get hold of any sort of meat:).A tin of corned beef now and again is fine and a good standby for times when the wolf comes knocking on the door, or unexpected youngsters turn up needing feeding.Bully beef dished up with an egg and a few chips will fill a hungry teenager :rotfl:

I think the best corned beef is Manor House Premium Corned Beef from Lidl at £1.99 (sometimes it is on offer at £1.59).
There is hardly any fat running through it, just small amounts at both ends of the tin, so that you can just slice it off.
Sorry this vid isn't in english but at least you get to see the c/beef.
