Cancel Landline - Redirect old number to mobile?

Hi,
This is my first post, so apologies if this has been covered, I've looked but possibly been putting in the wrong search criteria.
I have a BT Landline & BT Infinity 2 broadband.
I very rarely, if ever, use the landline to make outgoing calls.
I am considering cancelling with BT and moving over to Virgin Media Fibre Broadband only (no landline required) - currently £28 per month 12 month contract.
I do, however, have friends and family (along with banks and doctors and such like) who have my landline number.
Obviously I can advise most of the change and that will be fine, it's the ones I can't advise or no longer have contact details but they still have my landline number.
Is it possible to put a redirect on a cancelled line number to a mobile?
Is there any other way to catch a missed call from someone calling a cancelled landline number?
Are there any deals that I could look at to reduce the £28 per month for the Virgin Media Fibre Broadband?
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me with the above 3 questions.
Simon

yes but with a big cost for a division of calls to your mobile as you will have to pay for the transfer and the mobile call cost, but could have a virgin phone and transfer the phone number to VirginDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

You can't redirect a cancelled landline number as, once cancelled, there is nothing to redirect.
Once cancelled you wont be able to catch any calls as there will be no service to pick them up on in the first place. who ever calls will just get a wrong number or number not in service message..... until its reissued to someone else that is.
Maybe move the number to a VOIP service? Normally cheaper than a land line and will work with virginmedia broadband.
Alternatively, why not see if you can get a retention deal from BT or move to another provider with a new customer deal for all services?
I think vieginmedia will add the line rental for a few extra pounds if taking broadband and, as you only need to possibly receive calls and not make them, you wont need to pay for a call package so this may be the cheapest option .0 -
There are some VoIP providers that will port your existing phone number from BT or whoever to become a VoIP virtual number.
For example: https://www.gradwell.com/endpoints/porting/
Once it's a VoIP virtual number you can make it redirect calls to your mobile.
As previously mentioned, you will need to do this before you cancel the line otherwise you won't have the number any more.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Thank you to all of the quick responders.
That's certainly given me something to think over and look into.
Thanks.

So who pays the premium when an incoming call from a landline reaches your mobile ?0 -

You pay for it from your account with the VoIP provider.
It sounds like the OP only requires this for occasional incoming calls, so having to pay for them shouldn't be a big problem.
If your mobile has SIP client software (built into some versions of Android, and also available as an app) and you have a good data connection, you could try getting your mobile to connect directly to the VoIP provider to receive the calls - then you wouldn't have to pay for the redirection. Probably bad for your mobile's battery life though.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

If you're paying for redirected calls then the mobile phone wouldn't know that it's VoIP at all - it would come in as a standard phone call.
If you're using a SIP client to connect to the VoIP provider to avoid paying for incoming calls then yes there almost certainly would be an impact on battery life as it would have to monitor VoIP in some sense. Not sure how bad it actually is as I haven't looked into the technical details of the SIP protocol.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
