Switch from BT broadband to Sky

I was wondering if anyone has done this switch. My broadband is meant to be switching across from BT to Sky tomorrow. I was told that the BT broadband will stop working between 8am and midnight tomorrow and then I simply plus in the sky equipment and it will be up and running again.
Is it really this straightforward or is there likely to be any downtime? I work from home and really need the internet all day tomorrow.
Can anyone help, I have read stories online about all sorts of problems and am getting a bit worried.

If you work from home then you should have a business contract with guarantees not a home service .
It will probably switch as said but no guarantees .0 -
Downtime is usually minimal. Can be minutes, can be a few hours. How did you expect to switch without a temporary loss of service? As above, if you are running a business on a residential contract then you are technically in breach of contract anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks for your replies. I am not running a business I am employed and work from home. shoild I have a business contract for this? Domestic Internet normally suits my purposes fine.0

You only need a business contract if you need a guaranteed service and priority fault repair. There is no SLA on a residential contract, so if, for example, if the line goes down for 5 days or longer, as can happen, all you will get is a credit for the downtime, nothing more.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Just want to say it all switched with no downtime at all and is working perfectly. Broadband speeds so far seem to be more consistent than with BT and the wifi is working much better.0

If you work from home, do your employers pay for internet/phone?? If so, worth considering switching to a business line for a bit more security as per macman's last post.0

I've worked from home for years and never had an issue with residential broadband - no business broadband required!
I know it could happen, but in 7 years it hasn't *touch wood*.0
