Man filmed keying a £100k Aston Martin in London - why?

The BBC morning programe reported today, police are trying to find a man caught on a dashcam, allegedly keying a car in Hackney, East London worth £100k.

The man moves the pram, before keying the passenger side of the car.

Its estimated, the damage caused is 9K

why do people do this sort of thing?

I'm afraid having a child doesn't automatically make everyone a perfect father. I always try to exhaust the options for why another person acted in any particular way:

He keyed an expensive car.. maybe he has little to no income struggling to support his family, and some pompous pr1ck with all the cash in the world refused a payment of some sort that he was relying on. In a detached moment he associated the car with the rich guy and acted. Most people have a control mechanism to stop themselves based on the potential repercussions, not everyone. Alternative story... he himself is a pr1ck and wanted something to brag about down the pub.

I've never experienced road rage through this way of thinking. If I'm cut off or see someone driving erratically, I just assume they have somewhere to urgently be eg. pregnant woman in back seat / mother dying in hospital. I drive carefully, but if time was extremely valuable in more than just a monetary sense then I'd probably bend a few rules whilst limiting any safety risks it would cause.

If you've ever had a distinctive looking or expensive car, you would become familiar with the service item, "jealousy stripes".
The scum already have too much handed to them on a plate, but their heads still cannot cope with someone else having something they can only dream of.

Easy, it's simply the thrill of vandalism - thinking about the distress and annoyance you can cause, with the expectation you will get away with it. Expensive car, bigger thrill.

What is concerning is that it is a relatively mature person, and you do wonder what sort of values someone like that is going to pass onto their kids.

As a teenager (and younger) I'm sure we have nearly all done stupid things including deliberate vandalism, through the mixed up minds of children and lack of common sense, but it is sad to see an adult acting as a stupid kid.

Envy. Pure and simple plus he probably has "issues". There is no excuse for criminal behaviour, we all know right from wrong.

To be fair, driving any car around Hackney is asking for trouble, let alone an Aston worth £100k.

Why anyone would want to live in London is a constant source of bewilderment to me. I get depressed and angry enough when I'm there on a training course for a week.

Aston Martin quoted price to respray the entire car I would assume.

By the way, this happens everyday....just the car isn't always worth £100k.
