Greensalad - Instead of buying the post office plastic bag thingies for ebay parcels, I save plastic carrier bags. The thin crinkly supermarket ones aren't any good for this, but the thicker ones are really useful. I cut them open to make one big sheet of plastic, cut the handles off, then use it to wrap the item as if it was ordinary wrapping paper. I end up with a waterproof packaging which has cost me nothing except a few lengths of brown parcel tape. I've sent yarn this way, also clothes, magazines, handbags, etc. If the bag has loads of writing on which I think may confuse the postman, I just make sure that side goes on the inside so there's plenty of blank space on the outside to add my address label.
Of course this is no good if you don't have a stash of carrier bags, but thought I'd kick in the idea to save you some pence x

I do have carrier bags but I always feel a bit guilty posting something nice to someone wrapped up in shopping bags :/ The mailing sack things I get are from eBay and are 30 for £2 and I factor the price into the eBay listing so it isn't too bad :)

Greensalad - Ah, I see. I have no such qualms as am such an avid recycler, especially of plastic.

I sometimes lurk on the ebay forum on here and quite a few people are sniffy about getting stuff sent to them in carrier bags (I recall aright fuss also being made about something being sent in a pizza box with a grease mark! I'm glad it wasn't the same person I sent something breakable to in a washing powder box :rotfl:)

I still do use whatever is to hand though I figure I'm not a business seller so I can't be expected to have all the right packaging, it might be different if I was.

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

A good day here. The market research panel I am part of for my business energy supplier paid me £50 unexpectedly today. In the sense I knew they would but had no idea when. So that has gone straight to the debt.
I also paid off £4 to cover the £4 I got for free at Mr T last night by using my clubcard vouchers.
Have just £136 left on that card to clear now, and then the remainder is interest free for 15 months, but Im aiming to clear it by Xmas!

Have had my son at work with me the last 2 days. I've booked him into the sports camp for tomorow though, its just not that great having a 6 year old sitting around on the tablet all day, which is realistically what happens. He is happy enough, but I feel like a terrible mother. I told him if he is really unhappy there tommorow he can come with me again on Thursday.

Not really masses to report today!

FVD - Lol at recieving something in a pizza box that is priceless!

Put an unopened pot of houmous, whose date is up tomorrow, in the freezer. Not sure if you CAN freeze houmous but it is worth a try as I won't be able to eat it...

You can freeze it. I would normally drizzle a little olive oil over the top before putting it in the freezer to prevent it drying out.

If there are any olives or peppers in the mix their texture may change.

    Evening DFW-ers,

Hugely busy day again today. Two down; three to go. I still have plague.

    Nillionaire Month Three:

    * Job interviews up in the city went well but took longer than expected. Thanks for all your kind words. Will hear in a day or two if I'm through to round two. I would be very happy if I could secure either post.

    * Decided to go by train as it's marginally cheaper than driving. OH wanted to come but we agreed against it, thereby saving £11.40 on her fare. Used free WiFi on train and got a free paper courtesy of ScotRail.

    * Followed up interviews with free coffee and cake in John Lewis using monthly coffee and cake voucher that comes with free loyalty card. (Link) Spent a £1 on sweeties for OH as consolation for not coming with me. Did not buy anything shiny and electronic. I'd usually scour the shops for freebies while I'm in the city but wasn't feeling well enough for all that. Forgot to look for womble-able receipts. Damn!

    * Listened to a busker for a while.

    * Made quick toad-in-the hole for dinner and used up remnants of veg to go with it. Then made half portion of apple crumble while oven was still hot.

    * Sat in garden for an hour at tea-time. Free Vitamin D.

*Did a wee bit of photography at the station for fun while I was waiting for my train home.

    Back tomorrow for round 3.

  • As someone who has read this group for ages here is my first list....

    1. Check banks and cc to see how much I really don't have Done
    2. Read a page of reviews of Ciao Done
    3. Water tomato and broad bean plants Done
    4. Put more of my daughters books on ebay as she has suddenly realised she's going to Uni next
    month....
    5. Walk to football to save on petrol
    6. Finish book so can move onto next in pile and write a Ciao review
    7. Read and clear off some emails Done

Short list, but have to start somewhere...

  • So here is today's list:
[STRIKE] check banking and PAD if possible[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE] check for surveys[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE] chase up Approved Food order and missing refund[/STRIKE] Turns out that whoever is dealing with my request forgot to press the ok button to issue the refund. Bloke I spoke to sorted it straight away
[STRIKE] send NCB proof to new car insurer[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE] load of washing in but no hope of getting it on the line today as the rain is in for the long haul I think[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE] make banana bread with bananas that have seen better days[/STRIKE]

Another successful day, and I am declaring another NSD. I had hoped for family lunch at Toby Carvery using vouchers, but DH didn't get out of bed until after 1pm. Always a bit concerning with his history but I won't nag him as that won't help.
My refund arrived from Approved Food, along with £50 owed to me by a friend that I had just about written off. That went straight over to the CC so looking pretty good on that front.
Changed all of the bedding, and washed it - no hope of drying it though as it has rained non stop all day.
Also spent some time reading and relaxing, and I downloaded a free trial of YNAB to see what all of the fuss is about.
Pleased the interviews went well Ally - fingers crossed for you that there's some good news soon.
