But he's right - the latest I've seen is dad (incapable of caring for himself) who claims CA for mum (incapable of caring for herself) who claims CA for son. Sadly CA claims are rarely checked, or cross referenced to check for contradictions in other claims.
(Sorry OP, off topic!)0 -
I am surprised they have not done the normal scam and claim carers for each other then IS.
I am new to JSA and don't intend on abusing the system. However, you're right, I could have done this, I probably could have claimed for my Dad and vice versa. His disabilities are physical and mine are mental as I have Autism. But the reality is that we don't really care for each other. It's never been a case that we have ever discussed either.
I had a nightmare with the premiums though and they seem to have a lot of staff at the benefit centre who don't really know much. I had a lady who didn't know who she was talking about, then a bloke who overruled her. Then I got a team leader from another department who said that the £105 is right, but would put in the system that I want a review regardless. I even asked for a manager, she didn't allow for this. She told me any review is likely to take upto two days.
Within 30 minutes, they had re-assessed & I was entitled to the £167.
It's quite bonkers that these people don't know what they are doing or what I am talking about. There rudeness is of another level too!
I also made the claim and told I have completed University. They must think I am going back as the claim says that it's going down to £13 as of September.0 -
You're always making these snide little comments about people who receive benefits. What's wrong with people maximising their income? Why does it bother you so much that just about every post you make in this forum is a negative, benefit bashing, one?I am surprised they have not done the normal scam and claim carers for each other then IS.
It shows how much you know because in this case the original poster would be £61.85 a week worse off if his or her father was to claim and be paid Carer's Allowance. The only way the OP would keep the Severe Disability Premium would be if the father merely had underlying entitlement to Carer's Allowance and it wasn't actually paid, otherwise the claim for Carer's Allowance would end any SDP.
Similarly if the OP was to claim Carer's Allowance for looking after the father he or she would leave his or her father up to £61.85 a week worse off if the father was also to be paid a benefit which included a severe disability premium. This is because the OP would be likely to get Carer's Allowance and not merely have underlying entitlement. In this case the OP would be £27.25 a week worse off (the difference between the severe disability premium and the carer's premium).0 -

Worse to do IMO - and it happens all the time.0 -
I find it amazing that someone with presumably no or very few contributions can receive, tax free, in excess of £200 a week plus probably free housing.0

It's the big difference between the UK and most of the rest of Europe.
It's obviously the problem that is highlighted when it comes to immigration, I suppose the argument is that it's based on need rather than being a basic insurance policy.
The system is being changed, and it has to be tightened to be in any way sustainable, but the flip side is that there will be many hardship cases.0 -
How did you fund university? Do you intend to use whatever qualification you got there by job seeking?
Not trying to bash, Im just curious.0 -
