JSA with Disability (Live with Dad)

I have just finished University and basically skint.

I made an application for JSA and I am currently entitled to DLA and I am over 25 and live with my Dad, who is disabled.

The rate I have been given is £105 and I was expecting £167. The £105 is made like this:

JSA Adult over age of 25 £73.10 per week

Disability Premium (DLA) £32.25 per week

I have been told that because I live with my Dad that this is the reason for receiving only £105, instead of £167.

I live completely independently from my Dad to be quite honest & are pretty much 2 households in one house. I do not claim any sort of carer allowance for my Dad either.

Is it not possible that the benefit centre have got this wrong?

Many Thanks.

    Hi.

My monthly rate is £307, which is middle care & low mobility.

My Dad, I believe is on the high rate for everything.

ypu need to find out which rate of DLA care you receive.
if it is low rate care, then the £105 is correct.
if you are receiving middle or high care, you would be entitled to the severe disability premium too. which would take the total to £167 a week.

normally, the severe disability premium is only p[aid when you live alone and no one claims carers allowance for looking after you. one of the exceptions is when both people in the home receive middle.high DLA dare

    I am very confused.

I have checked and my rate is middle care and low mobility. My Dad's rate is high for both.

the severe disability premium is NOT awarded automatically.
you have to apply for it.
they will backdate it to the start of the JSA claim as long as you apply pretty quickly

If you live in your Dad's house then, regardless of the living arrangements you have with your Dad, you will not qualify for the Severe Disability Premium.

    that is incorrect.
BOTH the OP and his father receive DLA at a qualifying rate.
this means that he IS entitled to the severe disability premium

My mistake, I overlooked Foolah mentioning that his or her dad receives the highest care component rate of DLA.

Yes, in this case both Foolah and his or her Dad should both be treated as living alone for SDP purposes if no other adults live in the property.

I am surprised they have not done the normal scam and claim carers for each other then IS.

Thank you for your help. I phoned the Job Centre this morning and even though the first lady I spoke to had no idea, the second guy did.
