Issue a Statutory Payment Demand... This gives them 21 days to settle the account. If they don't pay or come to some agreement with you, you have grounds to issue a winding up petition in Court. There are obviously costs involved... see Winding up a company..
It's serious action to take....0 -
A little note to contractors here who offer services to third party companies.
Always scope the work to death and get a signed agreement to scope wit associated estimate cost.0 -

Yes those are usually the best ways.

As you can't use a phonebook or directory enquiries, you could do something whacky like go on to the Law Society webpage and search for a solicitor handling your type of dispute near your postcode.
I'm pretty sure I can see why you've been working for nothing for so long.0 -

Most towns have a street or area where solicitors tend to have their offices. They are, for obvious reasons, usually within walking distance of the courthouse. Either walk in and enquire at reception of these solicitors or note their number and ring them up and ask if they specialise in commercial work. It is really up to you to assess if they are likely to be good enough. It is all part of running a business.0 -
I don't buy this 'solicitors don't have websites' malarkey. I've just googled solicitors in the city I live in, and in the town I used to live in. In both cases there's a page of results of mostly websites for actual solicitors.
Failing that there's yell.com and thomweb if you haven't got an actual physical copy of either of those to hand.
And the law society already mentioned.
Phone any solicitor convenient to where you live. Ask if they have someone who specialises in pursuing debt. If not, ask which local companies do. I did exactly this about a year ago: phoned the solicitor we'd used in the past for house buying and selling, they don't have an employment law specialist but they gave me the names of two local companies who do.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Cheers guys, as slow this all makes me look this is something I have never dealt with. I like to write code not these kind of things.
So I've found one, I will go in today and try and get a quote. My plan is to go to 3 and get quotes to see what is reasonable.
Anybody have a rough idea on what you might expect to pay?0 -

With respect your 'softness' in attitude - "I like to write code" is getting in the way of you getting paid. Could be why they are trying it on.
Seems to me the person that owes you the money is more ruthless in the world of business than you are.
Go out there and metaphorically kick butt! The more I live, the more I learn.
The more I learn, the more I grow.
The more I grow, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the more I see,
How little I know.!!0
