  • Thanks diamond, no your comments are in no way harsh but truthful. I agree about poor financial management traits everything I have learned about finances I have learnt off here and through my /our mistakes and my parents. I'm in no way perfect and I'm still learning I'm actually enjoying debt busting.

    Hi,

I'm like you - alone in lightbulb moment. I think you're going the right thing by focusing on your finances. Yes we are married and we are in debt but hopefully when they see your progress he will try to join in? It's whatever you need to do to tackle the debt. I'm the same as you. Id rather start plowing through £12k then £28k. You don't need to get him on board yet - you're still getting yourself on board. Then when you've made lots of progress and paid off say a third then you can show him the way. Glad to see you're doing well :) it's weird when you start doing it, isn't it! X

  • !!!!!! just wrote a really long post then lost it all , anyway onwards and upwards. Thankyou for your replies kitten I do and am still find things difficult I like to spoil people in fact this year is the first year that I have actually stuck to a budget and not put anything on credit for Christmas or dh birthday which Is on the 22nd Dec, so I am feeling very proud of myself. :T

With regards to our finances I was feeling a bit selfish sorting myself out first rather than us both together but I realised if I did that I was going to spread myself to thin and end up totally confusing myself. I have opened a few savings accounts which I know isn't true mse but I need to do it how it works best for me and I want to have some money set aside for any unexpected eventualities and expected things like birthdays, Christmas, our wedding anniversary, car stuff.

Bit of a strange week this week finished nights yesterday morning doing a cheeky 5 - 11pm shift today night tomorrow days off Thurs and Fri work the weekend then nights Monday and Tuesday then off for 3 days yay :xmastree::rudolf::xmassmile:xmassign: can you tell I love Christmas hee hee.

It's that thing, in an ideal world you'd both have a light bulb moment in the side (well never have debt but by and by) and you'd both tackle it as a team but in reality it doesn't work that way and you can't put your money into his debt if he's still running it up. I feel like every time I sort out my husband he mucks it up when I stop 'nagging'. It is hard as we just don't get much pay so any treat is a big deal for us. So learn your tricks and then get him on.
I'm always having long posts vanish so annoying!!
Well done on your shopping!! That's amazing!! So weird as id never even considered shopping that way before x

lincs, I love money jars! Opening them and counting them up is so exciting, I'm like a kid at Christmas!
Let’s just pretend I have not been alternately drowning in debt or only eating toast to try and pay it off for the last 20 years 😭
  • I know can't wait. I've got a couple of jars temporarily holding my change for now until I get one that is properly unbreakable.

It is mse to get yourself some savings sorted. Being a budgeted person going forward and paying back what you can afford to pay back. You're doing it the right way :) I'm still not there yet. I do want to but focusing on getting debts down first. I think it's because if I have a back up fund it'll get spent, there's always something that we need but I try to ignore it. This month it was car seats been needing to buy them for months. X

  • Afternoon, just been on my online banking and have reduced my payments slightly to the credit cards there still above the minimum amounts required but as I know I'm not going to have a very good pay slip this month I don't want to slip back into my old ways, particularly as it's 5 weeks til my next payday. I don't want to try and run before I can walk.
