an you even have a written confession from the thief, or at least from one of the conspirators. But your property has been stolen? Have you reported what has happened to your insurer? The police?
Have you advised the EA that you will approach the police?
Even allowing for current police budget cuts, this is a crime they should be able to clear up fairly fast......0 -
Well, the culprit did make a clean getaway.....0

The figure was roughly £800 worth of items. I'll just point out that this wasn't student accommodation. I'll contact shelter, and see what advice they can give and also university. As I'm out all day this will have to wait till tomorrow unfortunately.
Was that £800 the purchase price of items to buy new or the second-hand value of the items ? Do you have any receipts or proofs of purchase (bank statements etc) ? Hopefully you will as that will help your case. Good luck with this.0 -
Leaving aside that this might be considered a burglary, your landlord (or his agent) has trespassed to land and to goods, which are torts and may lead to punitive damage in addition to the cost of all of your goods, and potentially unlawful eviction.
It would perhaps be worthwhile to have a solicitor draft a stern letter to your landlord.
If you estimate your goods were worth £800, clearly the letter would be demanding at least something like £2000 to settle the issue.0 -

2nd hand frozen food?! Pass!
I think in this instance the £800 is a bargain for all concerned.0 -

Think the agent should be a co-respondant.0 -
So, they entered a place and stole things, you have an admission that the items were taken without permission, and they are now disputing the value of the items they stole.
Hmm....
If there are receipts for the missing items, then they would be handy, but anyway, it's your word against an admitted thief.0 -
Thanks for the advice everyone it's greatly appreciated!! Like i said i'll be ringing shelter first thing tomorrow morning for advice, then take things from there. Unfortunately i don't have any receipts for the items as like most people they get thrown out after a few days. If i did contact the police about this, would this help my case in receiving compensation?
Is there any way i'm able to get the details of the cleaner and LL if needed as i'm unsure if i can due to the data protection act0 -
Do you have legal cover with your contents insurance? You really need to report this to the Police.0
