If I use 24000 kwh,
Ebico £612 , npower online £571 (-41) & SSEgrp £590 (-22)
If I use 21000 kwh
Ebico £536, npower online £507 (-29) & SSEgrp £521 (-15)
ELECTRICITY
I am in the most expensive region for electricity! I use about 1234kwh per year.
Ebico £140, only 1 beats it, British Gas @ £138 (-2) or British Gas online @ £127 (-13). It is not a saving worth bothering with IMO and it will be a cold day in hell before I go back to British Gas anyway.
DUAL FUEL
Dual Fuel @ 24,000 gas 1234 leccy
Ebico £752, nPower online £719 (-33), SSEgrp £730 (-22)
Dual fuel @ 21,000 gas 1234 leccy
Ebico £676, nPower online £655 (-21), SSEgrp £663 (-13)
*note I save less when selecting dual fuel
So I have decided to go along with the spirit of Ebico and stay with them because the savings aint that great to switch and I will be doing my bit to help those less fortunate than I, and encourage other suppliers to have a fairer pricing structure like Ebico does.
I just quoted myself from 4 months ago, let's have a look at how things have changed.
GAS
If I use 24000 kwh,
Ebico £612 npower online £617 (+5) SSEgrp £660 (+48)
Loyds TSB £628 (+16)
If I use 21000 kwh
Ebico £536 npower online £549 (+13) & SSEgrp £583 (+47) Lloyds £559 (+23)
ELECTRICITY
I use about 1234kwh per year.
Ebico £140 npower online £163 (+23) British Gas £168 (+28)
DUAL FUEL
Dual Fuel @ 24,000 gas 1234 leccy
Ebico £752 nPower online £760 (+8) SSEgrp £813 (+61) Lloyds £812 (+60)
Dual fuel @ 21,000 gas 1234 leccy
Ebico £676 nPower online £691 (+15) SSEgrp £738 (+62)
*note Ebico have remained the same the others raised their prices! I made the right decision to remain with Ebico :T0 -
Do you think Ebico will put their prices up when Southern's go up? Is it likely to affect them?Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0

Ebico seem to fix their prices in Sept for the whole year.
Anyway, shouldn`t prices be going down because the wholesale prices have dropped recently?0 -

My understanding is that gas companies purchase their gas in advance, therefore if there is a drop in the wholesale price it will take a while to feed through to consumers because they use current gas at old prices before using the gas at new (lower) prices.
This does however highlight an interesting point.
When prices were rising it was an advantage that Ebico passed this on later than other companies.
Does this now mean we will only see price DROPS in september?
i.e. other companies drop prices in the spring but Ebico in September?
This is questions and speculation. I don't have any inside knowledge.
As they seem to be an ethical company then I don't suspect they will try and screw anybody but frequent price changes must be costly in administration.0 -
I don't have any inside knowledge either but it seems that Ebico fixes a 12 month contract with southren and swalec to provide it`s ethical services.
As for the price reductions to take time to feed through the pipeline (no pun)
it doesn`t seem to take 9 months for an increase to be implemented.
Which is the time I have heard mentioned for any decrease.
Can we really rely on these companies to "do the right thing"
I fear not.
Lets hope Ofgem is awake and up to the job but it has already let all companies increase charges for this year of about £30 to pay for "infractstruture"0 -

I believe it was actually around £10 not £30 a year for the gas networks, so it must be doing a good job if it restricted the increase to 66% less than you thought
Mind you, they are considering charges of an extra £2 a year to pay for upgrades to the electricity network too - greedy bar stewards.0 -

I believe that British gas have already announced that they will cut prices (but haven't said when or how much).
I believe we can rely on Ebico to do the right thing (no connection, just aware of their ethical policy).
Although it may be September 2007 before their prices drop.
I don't think people should expect immediate drops if there was a lag of 9 months in putting up prices.
From what I have read the industry actually took some of the hit for increased costs themselves. I'm not saying that they are saints but I think there needs to be a balanced view of all the facts before judging them.0
