Tesco Credit Card questions

Hi

I'm interested in getting the Tesco Credit Card (The one that gives 5 point for every £4 spent in Tesco or 1 point for everywhere else).

A few questions:
  1. Does the card have contactless payment?
  2. Can online statements/transactions be downloaded in a format compatible with Microsoft Money?
  3. Do they send paper statements without restricting online accounting features?
  4. How will this card work if you already have a Tesco Club card? Do the points transfer over?
  5. Is the online account management fairly feature rich and user friendly?

TIA

In fact it gives just 1 point everywhere as you get 4 points in Tesco with a clubcard without a CC.
    Marketing gimmick.

    Not yet AFAIK: https://yourcommunity.tescobank.com/t5/Day-to-Day-Banking/Contactless-Credit-Card/td-p/1359

Very true, I completely overlooked that. Thanks for pointing that out.

My current card gives 0.5% cashback. Getting an extra 1 point per £4 of spending gives an equivalent of 0.25% cashback but if you use them during the Tesco Points Boost Double Up promotions then that effectively becomes 0.5% cashback.

I know you can get get 4x the point value for Club Card Deals but in my opinion, the things listed there are often full price e.g. cinema tickets or theme park day outs. But if you pay via other means then you can often readily available 2 for 1 vouchers so they are not as good value.

Assuming I use the points during the Tesco Points Boost period and I buy stuff I'd buy anyway from Tesco, is my logic correct that they'd give an effective 0.5% cashback?

I looked at this card until I made the same realisation about the points. I'd rather have straight 'cash' back than points with a finite selection of things to redeem.

I went for the Santander 1-2-3 card instead that pays 1% cashback on all supermarket spends (including Tesco) and 3% on all my fuel as well as some other stuff.

I have a different cashback card (1% AMEX/ 0.5% VISA combo) that I use for anywhere that Santander won't pay cashback on.

    1. No
    2. Yes - options are Comma Delimited (Excel Compatible), Tab Delimited (Excel Compatible), .qif (Quicken and MS Money)
    3. Yes they send paper statements without restricting online accounting features
    4. You add the Clubcard number to your Clubcard account
    5. I find their online account management very basic. It is however easy to use and navigate

According to this, the Santander is 1% on supermarket and 3% on fuel: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/cashback-credit-cards#foodPetrolTwo

Also, there is a £24 annual fee so it's not as good for those who do not have high spending.

True. I forget about the annual fee because it's waived for the first year if you have a current account. Plus my fuel spend alone makes the card more than worth the fees. I'm averaging about £13 a month in cashback just from the credit card, and about £40 a month if you include the cashback and interest earned from the current account.

The Tesco Clubcard Credit Card isn't contactless (and it doesn't look like there's plans to roll it out any time soon).

If you've got an existing Clubcard account it'll ask you for this number during the application process; failing that you can contact Customer Care and they'll merge the accounts for you.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

What if you had two Tesco club card accounts. Register one with the Tesco credit card. When you shop at Tesco, first use the non associated club card account and then when you pay, use the Tesco credit card. Will this mean you get 5 points per £4 on the credit card associated account and a further 1 point per £1 on the other account?

If you don't have a clubcard and therefore only use the Tesco Credit Card - then you get the 5 CC pts - 4 CC pts & 1 TPF (Tesco Personal Finance) pt. If you use a CC card - it will get the CC pts., and the TCC will get the TPF pt. If they are linked together - no difference the points are all in the same place. But if the CC is a separate card it will have the ordinary CC 4 pts, and the Tesco Credit Card will get the 1 TPF pt.

A word of warning however, it asks if you have a Clubcard. The operative word here is 'you'. If you have a key-fob card and vouchers are addressed to someone else in the household - it is not your Clubcard - only one you use.
The info for the Credit card takes priority so the other card details, may be overwritten with yours!!
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard

Or for the shorter version, when you pay with a Tesco CC you don't need to present a clubcard, the CC is the clubcard.

What you are suggesting would effectively be present two different clubcards at the till for one transaction.
