My motor insurance is due for renewal and now requires me to declare any Convictions, Endorsements, or Fixed Penalty Notices received within the last 5 years (previously I recall it only asked me to declare any convictions or endorsements).
Last year I received a Notice of Intended Prosecution for a speeding offence and accepted a Speed Awareness course in lieu of the 3 points.
So from the insurance point of view, have I received a Fixed Penalty Notice or not? Or would that only apply had I declined (or not been offered) the speed awareness course and taken the points instead?
Insurer is Swiftcover.

So you never accepted (or were offered even) an FPN.

So nothing to declare ... unless of course your insurer asks if you have attended a Speed Awareness Course , which some companies are now starting to do.

Thanks, that's what I thought. No, that question is not asked, they are only interested in convictions.
I believe Admiral Group are the only insurer specifically asking about speed awareness courses?

Can you attend a speed awareness course if you haven't been speeding?

Tell them nothing, they have no right to ask about speed awareness courses and if you have attended one that is confidential information which they can not get (Legally).

No-someone on mine wanted to 'bring a friend'. You can I believe bring an interpreter if English is not your first language.

Why would you want to? If it is for an assessment of your driving and how to improve people like the IAM run taster sessions that are generally cheaper than a speed awareness course.

I was just pondering really. I have read several posts in the past saying how useful the courses are so it struck me that attending one might make a driver less likely to break the the speed limit in the first place. Ironically, it might also mean that they are charged more for their car insurance.

How is it? None of the people I know who've ever been on a SAC have ever had their driving assessed. They've all sat in a conference room at a cheap motorway services hotel for four hours and been talked at/shown pictures.

I can confirm the above-there is no 'assessment' of your driving whatsoever.and you don't have to arrive by car anyway.

I don think I made my point very well. As I said why would you want to attend a speed awareness course?

An IAM taster session does give you an assessment of your driving so is much more useful for most people.
