Isn't the M6 a total nightmare in the mornings, especially trying to get towards Birmingham and NEC area?

If OP works in Birmingham city centre I definitely recommend not driving in. It's fine if passing through as I do but then I avoid rush hour.

Another good thing with Wednesbury is that the Midland Metro also stops there & gets to Birmingham in 22 minutes...much better for commuting to the city.

Thank you all for your replies.

My son and his girlfriend are looking for a place to buy, they currently rent. But they havent really been there long enough to get to know surrounding area.

My son drives but his girlfriend would need the bus to walsall.

Its a nightmare for us trying to help cos we definitely dont know the area. Lol. :)

Why look in a random area like Aldridge? West Brom has direct buses to Walsall. Wednesbury is on the other side of the diamond if you imagine West Brom at the top, Walsall at the bottom and Great Barr on the one side...Stone Cross in the middle.
If I wanted motorway access + direct buses into West Brom & Walsall I wouldn't bother looking anywhere other than Pleck side of Walsall, Wednesbury & West Brom (Stone Cross falls under west brom I think)

It's probably down to how "nice" the areas are. While I'd happily live in Aldridge or Streetly there aren't many places I'd like to live in any of the areas you've mentioned.
  • I live close to M6 and gotta agree it is a nightmare and seems to be a car park rather than a road a lot of the time.

They are renting at the mo in Great Barr and commuting. Aldridge had been suggested that's why that area. But I think they've settled on Great Barr area.

Definitely avoid West Bromwich and Wednesbury, awful areas, rough, look on Google Earth,it will give you an idea of what it is like. Also look at the UK crime map.Cannot believe anyone would suggest someone live here rather than Great Barr!

I am not a fan of Great Barr,I worked in the area for years, the Scott Arms traffic light are a nightmare. There are some nice residential bits of Great Barr though.

Streetly has a good bus service into Walsall, the property south of the Chester Road is less expensive than north of it.I lived in Streetly for 20years,far nicer than Great Barr,if you can afford the property prices there.
