Parts of Great Barr are pretty nice to be fair, good access to Brum and motorway network so the prices are higher.

Not so great as you get over the Newton Road towards Hamstead or down towards West Brom but still not that bad.

The Great Barr end of Walsall is also pretty nice.

Or you might wish to consider Streetley

Or Streetly as Streetley is not near Great Barr .
Generally a far more expensive area than the Walsall and Great Barr Areas .

Really this is all going to depend upon the OPs price range £120K or £250K

Sutton Coldfield side of Walsall the most expensive towards Birmingham cheaper with Wolverhampton side cheaper .

Mid range i would be looking around the Aldridge area .

I used to live in the Perry Beeches area, towards the Great Barr end, rather than the Perry Barr end.

The M6 was a constant thing in the background.

The whole area is a fairly grim, dormitory suburb for Birmingham, with no features, no points of interest and kids hanging around the few parades of shops that do exist.

Perry Barr is where the gangsters hang out - sitting on the bus into town, looking out for the latest police crime scene was a regular feature.

If travel into Walsall is going to be a regular thing, may I suggest living closer to Walsall - try either the Daisy Bank or Park Hall areas, still along the Birmingham Road and still very close to Junction 7.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Sorry, yes I did put in an additional e. Dependent on price range, Streetly does have some affordable property and is on a direct bus route to Walsall, well some of it is. Aldridge is a good suggestion.

It's worth looking in Wednesbury. Direct bus routes to Walsall & M6 J9 within a couple minutes.
If you can get near WS10 9QU then you're guaranteed places at an "outstanding" high school if you have kids

  • Isn't the M6 a total nightmare in the mornings, especially trying to get towards Birmingham and NEC area?

Even if it is (and you're probably right) the OP hasn't said when she wants to use the M6, and she has specifically said that she is looking at bus routes to Walsall, so the state of the motorway is unlikely to be a factor.

Or is this yet another post where the question asked hasn't been read?
  • Yes I did read it but thought I would add in this information in case she needed to drive down that way as I know how awful this journey is :(

Perry Barr - Pheasey - Aldridge - Walsall via Old Oscott and Rushall have a good bus connections to Walsall town centre.

However you could also get the train that stops at:

Witton, Perry Barr, Hamstead, Tame Bridge Parkway & Bescot Stadium

The information regarding the train is additional information the OP "may" find of use.
