So, last night when I left it was on 2.1gb and turned off. This morning, just checked and it's 3.9gb and I am pretty sure they won't have used it between then and now, yet another 1.8gb has been used overnight?!

    What else could it be?

    Nope.

They wouldn't even know how to update.
Yes but Windows will automatically download it in the background and wait for the user to allow installation. Other Windows updates could be the issue as well.

Possibly, but it strikes me as a little strange that this has only happened in July and Aug. Surely there would have been updated between Jan and June? And they surely wouldn't amount to 2gb?

Updates to the strength of 3gb between 8th and 12th August - really?

Win 10 is about 3.5GB updates started late July .

Or somebody is using the wifi .
    Or something is updating .
Try turning router off overnight .
Its always worth resetting a router if problems .

catch up on sky box? This is via the internet unless it is something they personally recorded

Windows Updates - Different months are different sizes, I guess they have default settings which will have download multiple gb this month for Windows 10. The dates match the Windows 10 roll out.

Smart phone updates can be 1gb+

2gb isnt going to cut it these days if they have pc's, smartphones and tablets.

Fair enough. I wouldn't think they're doing this all of a sudden having not done it for the past 6 months. They generally either watch something or record it and watch later.

Perhaps ask them if they have used the On Demand section on their Sky box? If they have searched for a programme they could have easily downloaded it.
