Thanks dodger, I'm sure OH will do anything to keep a roof over our heads. Just spoken to boss as work is crazy busy. He said I can have some more hours and even do them from home! Bit of a result.
  • Have you sorted out child benefit? you should e entitled to it (and should have been since your children were born). It has only recently been means tested and you only lose it entirely if the highest earner makes more than 60k.

Did your OH make any pension contributions, it may reduce his salary to below £50k so you would be entitled to the full amount.
    Thinking critically since 1996....

You can calculate statutory redundancy pay here.

I agree that OH would have to take any job to keep things going.

Oh wow somethingcorporAte. He pays a hefty pension contribution each month. Thank you! Will speak to OHs uncle and see what we can do to claim some back, I think you can backdate 3 months?

Thanks for the link Beecher really appreciate it.

I do like your attitude, quite refreshing.
    It's someone else's fault.

Thanks dodger. I do waver between being almost in tears and being really positive about taking action, such an emotional roller coaster. I just don't want the little ones lives to change too much if we can help it.

OH has said they've also said they'd give 2 months notice which they wouldn't have to work, so if I can pay off my CC by that time it should be ok. I've checked the redundancy calculator and that is enough to pay the mortgage for a year, and my wages are enough to live ish. So until benefits kick in, we should atleast be able to eat. Obv the car would go, were fortunate to have solar panels and wood burners, so energy bills are low anyway.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to reply, I really appreciate your advice and concern x

I'm afraid I have nothing helpful to add, but just as Dodger wrote - I admire your attitude to it all.

It's so nice to read about a poster actually taking positive steps following the advice given. Usually I would expect the OP to get all defensive when they don't like what they are reading. Some people don't like facing up to the reality of a change in life and prefer instead to get stroppy and claim they are being bullied.

I have no doubt that your family will get back on its feet in no time, largely because you are so willing to TRY.

Much luck to you all :)

I also admire your attitude :D

I appreciate that you probably feel as if you are treading through a sea of mud in attempting to make sense of it all and making plans for the future, but with your resolve I'm sure you'll come through it.

Good luck for the future x

Gosh thanks Nonnatus and NYM, am blushing a bit now! I'm just pleased there are nice people out there willing to give up their time to offer advice, I vouldnt get defensive about it! People are offering helpful advice!

Going to spend my lunch hour looking into all the links and working out how much I can earn etc. and on how to use up the glut of potatoes ive grown in the garden, to get the shopping bill down even further!
  • Have you popped over to the Old Style board yet? There is a wealth of information over there about frugal living which may help cut costs (if you don't do all of that already...). I've saved loads on my grocery bills from their tips.

Always something new to learn over there :)
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D
