Merlin, is that where you go to the job centre to sign on every week? Sorry for niaveity, have never had to think of Anything like this before, was in the military before I had children, so was completely out of the government entitlement link for years.
great idea NYM, just emailed him, came back with a resounding no 'sigh' thanks for thinking though.0 -
Ok, would be entitled to job seekers and council tax contributions. But no working tax credits or anything. Will do some more research and sums and see what I can come up with.
Thanks so much for your help.0 -

Although I am maxed out and could do with the extra hours, I'm not sure the company can stretch to it. No, no mortgage holiday apparently
. Honestly I'm so confused, there's jus so much to think about. oH will def try to get some agency work, he'll hate not working. To be honest I'm sure he'd do anything if needs be but, it's tricky as he'll be my childcare for when I work.
Making a list of things we can sell. I think I would be able to pay the bills on my wage, just! If we could sell enough to pay the mortgage for as long as possible would be the best thing to do I think. I desperately want to try and keep the house, OH built it and it means a lot.
I was lucky we had no debts and minimum outlay but it took him 5 months to find work as like you a specialist role. Not going to lie it wasn't the best 5 months (we got no redundancy as he hadn't been there 2 years). Although I was recovering from my first cancer I took extra hours as agency work is always there for nursing.
He just networked took any work even a day here and there and lived frugally.
I then took out insurance so it didn't happen again but never thought it would. I thought we would get some help - like you I found out different.
Speak to the lender even if they allow interest only it will help.
There is no Magic solution and I really wish there was. You have to increase income sending wishes he doesn't get made redundant and take out insurance if he skips it.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Unlikely to get council tax support, as jsa is classed as income along with your wages.
You have to apply for jsa online, then they give you an appointment for a few days later. However there is a 7 day waiting period for payment now.
It does pay your ni credits whilst out of work, so protecting your state pension.0 -

Oh bloolagoon it sounds like you've really been through it. Poor you. I'm concerned as apprently this downturn is likely to last a good few years, so rumour has it. So tightening belts it is. I feel sick and stupid about the mount of money ive frittered away, especially money I didn't have, my CC is £2500!!!! Trying desperately to pay it off by Oct, but it's hard going. But needs must.
Thanks Merlin, I wasn't aware of that with the council tax. I'm struggling to believe that, eventhough me and OH have both worked since we were 13 years old doing bits and pieces, that when we do actually need some financial support, after paying into the system for the last 15/20 years, that the government just says no! It's crazy!0 -

It's horrible especially when you read what some get in benefits.
Don't pay the CC offer a token payment. Your priority is your mortgage. What work does he do? Can we perhaps help with networking as many jobs aren't advertised.
It does improve and you will get there it just doesn't always feel that way. I hate posts like yours as we can't say - you get housing benefit, tax credits it's just a rotten position.
How big is your house if it gets desperate - can you rent a room? Or a parking space?Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
Last 20 years is irrelevant. It's the last 2 tax years and everything is means tested.
Does he have to work in that field? Can't he do something else.
One of my relatives had to go from Inverness to Aberdeen when he lost his job.0 -
You won't necessarily need the childcare if he is at home to look after the children:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls

Problem is when you are in this situation that you give up your childcare place and any one off agency work they can't take. It's the devil and deep blue place and very unpleasant.
You can't guarantee childcare and as when with a hold on your current providerTomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -
missymoo81 wrote: »Thanks lovelies, so appreciate your in out. Just dug out OHs pay slips, he's nothing if not organised! i know we've never got child benefit, and I was assuming OHs wages were still around £47k from before we had kids, but his last tax year pay slips add up to £51,235, that's why we won't have got it then, !!!!!! !!!!!!, i was excited for a moment! It's hard as OH has always earned the most moeny and he's super organised ive let him deal with all the finances. But he's away so I'm doing all the research.
Unfortunately OHs job is really specialiSed so would be really tricky for him to get another job, have put some feelers out but it seems so many people are in the same boat
I could work full time, the trouble I have is that I currently work 15 mins bike ride from home, so no travel parking costs and am on quite a high hourly rate, although not too many hours.Have done some research and jobs are paying around 2/3rds of my hourly rate and are in the city so 30-45 min commute and around £5-£10 Parking charges on top of petrol Cost.
They haven't givrn too much of an indication of redundancy payouts, apart from they're the minimum they can get away with.
Thanks again for posting it is comforting there are people out there with info and ideas to help x
Just take any available job until a job in his field comes up. It's better to have something coming in rather than nothing at all. It's someone else's fault.0
