Win7 to Win10 Upgrade - epic fail - thanks Microsoft

There is a trick which is to open the same URL on a non-Windows PC. Or get your browser to pretend that you aren't running Windows - for instance in IE11 you can set Emulation to pretend you're running Safari on an iPad.Unless I'm being more stupid than usual, this doesn't download the actual Windows 10 ISO, but a 32-bit and a 64-bit media creation tool to burn the pre-downloaded ISO to DVD or to USB Flash Drive...!
If you do that, instead of trying to run the Media Creation tool, you get two links (which last 24 hours) to good old fashioned ISOs (one for 32 bit, one for 64 bit) which you can download.
It will probably use slightly more bandwidth, as the ISO won't be quite so compressed, but I suspect it's more reliable.0 -
Update, for those that are interested.
Safe mode did work. But as there were no solutions on the internet that I could find, I decedeid to revert back to Windows 7.
Out came the trusty Macrium Reflect recovery disk and Windows 7 was back up and running within 10 mins (well worth the money that tool).
I think I'll steer well clear of Win10 for the near future. Give it a few months to mature and the early adopter bugs to be ironed out.
Thanks to all who replied.0 -

Since 30M+ machines have now upgraded OK, it's more epic fail thanks to some h/w or s/w weirdness on your PC.0 -
I reverted the PC to Win7 using the Macrium Reflect recovery disk.
I may wait a few months and try again, the question is, will the already downloaded Win10 update (2.7GB) ever be updated over the coming weeks/months? Or will it remain the same forever. because if it remains the same, I'll just run into the same issue weeks or months from now.0 -

When you install there will be an option to download updates.
Looks like you have driver issues though, its up to your hardware suppliers to make sure they are Win 10 ready.0 -
I agree, its probably a software or hardware / driver issue specific to my PC.0
