greensalad - Yes, I think in your position that I'd buy some clothes, but the reformed debt-free me would have a good look through my wardrobe & look at what I actually need. A big discount on a winter coat is a bit of a no-brainer if you need a new coat as that's always an expensive outlay. Also, it you only have one pair of jeans & wear them a lot, another pair would be useful. In my Spendy Decades, I spent an awful lot of money on clothes & used to get particularly spendy if there was any form of sale or discount, buying stuff I didn't really need because it was a bargain. So that's what I'd do. It is money saving in the long run, but only if you really like, & need the stuff. I think I'd have an evening blitzing my wardrobe, make a list of a few key garments I need.......then go for it! Enjoy!

Yes definitely! Over the years with this discount I've bought loads of stuff. But I now have enough of most stuff to last. Shoes, sandals, tops for example.

I have looked through and am going to buy myself a winter jacket, a second pair of jeans and a new bra (because big cup bras are so expensive!) and that's it. The bra is a little more expensive than normal (£10) but it's a more premium brand I've tried before that lasts well.

Thanks for your opinions guys. It's so difficult to help myself step away from overspending for the sake of it, vs overspending in a calculated way.

I actually just remembered Halifax promised me £50 from a complaint I made so I guess that, whenever it comes in, will pay for the shop :T
  • Personally, I think an 80% discount on something you are going to get anyway is too good to overlook. Even if it means dipping into the overdraft/debt pot for another month or two xx

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi All

Twiggy - The thought of the maggots made me heave. Bleu! We only use recycled supermarket bags & they are full in a day usually, so thank goodness we are low risk for this. But I have seen them on our outside bin before when the bin men, in their 'wisdom' wouldnt collect the bin for some reason in a hot weather period.

GreenSalad - I can see the appeal of putting in an order with your friend. I suppose my only additional thought is have you looked on ebay, any of the other 2nd hand shopping outlets for plus size clothing? If you dont need the items right now, but can see a need for them in the coming months, then feeling under pressure to buy NOW is not a good thing.

Determined - Your break sounded just what you needed.

Maria - Really glad you had a lovely weekend & your DIL behaved herself.

FVD - The whole situation with your OH sounds really stressful. I can see how he fell for having the hero worship element if thats what he needs to feel good. Its such a shame your son felt in the middle. I am also sorry about the pot noodle, it sounds bl00dy awful :)

Today was a good one. Had a party booking made so that was £60 extra in the form of the deposit. Plus its a good party, with adult catering & a cake. At the end of August. So far the trade has been fine this summer. Which is a shocker in itself. I've managed to repay £328 of the business CC in the past month, I am making extra payments every day now by rounding up the odds towards it. It feels so empowering to be able to.

Also fished £100 back out of the emergency fund that I'd overpaid this month, because I really want to get the remainder of the debt not on 0% paid down by the end of this month. I am about 50% to target on that.

Hugs to everyone who needs them today.

    Bob

When we lived in England 10 years ago my ex used to shop at a High Street store called Size Up. It was all ex-Evans stock, the things that Evans had too many of to sell, for example, at a discount. I believe this is the website for that company. (Link) I don't know if this is still Evans rejects but you could email them and ask.

So, things didn't go exactly according to plan this afternoon, as...erm...well...I fell asleep. Didn't finish deep cleaning the sitting room which will now have to wait til Thursday probably. :o

    The rest of the list:

*OH baked cherry scones using some morello cherries from a big jar we bought ages ago.

*OH made potato and salami croquettes to go with tonight's fish.

*Watched a favourite old DVD, which led to me dozing off on the sofa during sit-down-with-my-feet-up hour.

*Got an email from a company explaining a voucher will be a week later That explains why I haven't received it yet.

*Deal with all post that fell on the mat this afternoon.

I often look around charity shops but I pretyt much never find anything in my size. Seems most of them don't offer much bigger than a 20. I've never seen a coat in my size in a charity shop.

Not sure about plus size outlets though, never heard of that. I'll investigate :)
