    Good morning campers,
    Well, after a truly dreadful night's sleep, despite being very tired at bedtime, I'm not at my most energetic this morning. There are a few money-saving bits & bobs though, so may as well kick in a list:
    *Laundry drying outside in the sunshine. Hot muggy day here today. Wish it would rain.
    *Dinner will be curry made from the rubber pork I divided up yesterday. Useful recipe for leftover beef or lamb but it does work with pork too. Last time I made it, I forgot we'd bought a hotter chilli powder & it was too hot for me, which meant mr f ate mine as well while I had a cheese cob! Will half the chilli this time & add in to taste.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch prioritising what most needs using in the fridge.
    *Checked meal plans & realised that we have overbought carrots, especially as the first signs of a visit from those naughty carrot flies meant that I pulled the last of our carrot box at the weekend. Sliced, blanched & froze 2 bags.........the only thing coming out of the freezer today is half a loaf so again, my promise to run the contents down prior to defrosting has failed.
    *Pot up 3 different types of baby lettuces which I sowed a few weeks ago. Lovely little plants, will put some in newly emptied troughs & tubs as a 2nd crop, & if I can find some fleece to protect them from the local sparrow militia, the rest will go in the ground. Enough to take us well into Autumn.
    *Water veggies & feed aubergines again, as they are struggling a bit with there being quite a few on each plant.
    *Order the yarn to knit a jumper for a Christmas present. Hoping my favourite little online yarn store way up in Scotland will have it, as their customer service is excellent, but will also check Kemp's on the off chance as their prices are often very good.
    *Sent another payment reminder to an ebay customer as will be posting parcels this afternoon provided I've been paid.
    And that will be it for today, as there are tons of lettuces & that job will take me a long time. If I get bored, I'll remind myself that I'd be paying around £1 for a frilly lettuce & these were either free seeds, or leftover ones bought last year.
    Have a good day all,
    f x

    morning everyone :hello: thanks for starting us off ziggy :D twiggy I would do as others say and wipe out the bin with bleach, leave for 10 mins and then hose down/dry off. Happens to all of us!

    So I'm back from my 4 days in Holland with 2 of my oldest friends. Was so much fun, really good for the soul! Lots of good food & wine, catching up, reminiscing, dancing & spa-ing :j My friend who lives in Holland husband announced he didn't love her anymore suddenly in April and she is devasted so lots of trying to nurture her and give her strength to get through this. And I stuck exactly to my budget! :T

    Plans for the day include not wasting my life online so going to give myself a 15 minute window to be online then unplugging!

    small plans for the day:

    * [STRIKE]check banking[/STRIKE]
    * check onepoll
    * all meals from stores
    * keep an eye on emails in case of ms ops
    * [STRIKE]make sensory bugs (balloons) for dgd to play with[/STRIKE]
    * take some photos of items to list on ebay/facebay
    * possibly water plants but it was raining here this morning :o
    * [STRIKE]texted friend who has just had a baby to see if we can visit her this week[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]email a friend about a play date later today [/STRIKE]and another about one tomorrow
    * sew up trousers

    Ok think that's it! Have a lovely day x

    There is a point to me sharing this horror story not just to put people off their food - does anyone have any suggestions as to how best clean it and make sure its clean? I was going to take them out front first and hose down over the drain.

    Chuck boiling hot water in it and disinfectant, soda crystals, bleach or if you have none of these use washing up liquid. Don't use more than one chemical at once because you risk creating chlorine gas! Scrub inside the bin with a cloth tied to a broom. Rinse with more boiling hot water. Leave the lid open to dry it fully.

    Love the idea of tying a cloth to a broom rather than having to stick my face in there to get to the bottom!

    Twiggy, I had the same problem last week and I used three different cleaners (separate times) and hosed it out each time and left to dry as Ally says. Mine still smells a bit so I will do it again after the next time it's emptied.

    If you have animals and are out at work all day you need to thoroughly check their leftover food before putting in the bin. If I see anything that looks like it might be fly eggs I flush it down the loo but I obviously missed some.

    Bob, re your question last night, yes, there were problems, the atmosphere in the house between DS and DH was toxic and I was stuck in the middle. I was harbouring a lot of resentment about lots of money stuff plus I'd given up massaging his rock'n'roll ego. His whole Facebook persona is based around music and his band and she is into the whole music scene and treated him like the rock star he thinks he should be.

    Any old how... I brought in a Pot noodle for lunch, it's foul :rotfl: so I added the tomato sauce (I don't really like tomato sauce) and now it's even worse :rotfl:

    Jeyes Fluid will clear the odour if you have any. Or pressure wash it. Kim and Aggie recommend using hot water and washing powder.

    Afterwards fit a wheelie bin liner, or make a wheelie bin liner from bin bags taped together.

    I'm having a big dilemma!

    I had put away about £350 at the beginning of the month into savings specifically for paying off my £500 overdraft. The plan was to get the savings pot up to £500, book an appointment with the bank, and then transfer it over the morning of the appointment so I could close down the OD in it's entirety.

    At some point in August (either soon, or by the end, depending on whether some job money comes through) I would top up the £350 to £500.

    Now, a friend of mine has worked for the last few years at a plus size fashion shop. She has allowed me to use her discount for years. Being a plus size lady I can't buy clothes in most normal shops. This company does good quality clothes. Her discount gives me around 80% off. I get good quality, plus size clothes for less than supermarket prices. I'm talking a pair of great jeans for £8. FF+ bras for £5 etc. It's amazing.

    Well, she's leaving and has told me to get my order in with her before she leaves as it will be my last one ever! I don't know what to do. I could get myself an extra pair of jeans (I only have one pair), and a winter coat and some boots (leather) for 80% off. But it would require dipping into my savings. I can get a coat, boots and some jeans for about £40.

    Should I do it? Because of my size I'm likely to end up buying my winter coat from this shop anyway, albeit closer to the winter and when I've budgeted for it (probably October) but I'm so torn between saving my debt pot and paying off my OD, or buying a winter coat and stuff now and saving money in the future...

    Hmmm. Does your overdraft charge you to be in it? If not, I personally would probably make use of your friend's discount and stock up as it saves money in the long run.

    No it's interest free at present. It won't be in 2016 but the money I'd lose from dipping into the savings pot wouldn't be that much and I'd be able to make it up before the end of the year (It would lead me to waiting to pay off my OD in September instead of August).

    The non-budgeting of it all is going against everything I've been trying to force myself to do :(
  • greensalad it sounds like you can afford these purchases, it won't cost you anything in interest and you would end up buying them at a later date anyway for 80% more. If it were me I would definitely take this opportunity as it is money saving
