Tuesday 11th August - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important! :money:

    Morning DFW-Warriors,

    Thanks for the starter, Ziggy.

    I'm up bright and early again with a big list to get through.

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month Three:

    * Do job-seeking.

    * Try to spend free EE £20 e-voucher online if what I want isn't still out of stock, again.

    * Check online banking. Hurrah! After a fight my closed credit card has finally disappeared off my online banking.

    * Deep clean the second half of the sitting room using Stardrops and washable cloths and for the second sofa will use soap and an old t-shirt.

    * OH will make dinner from stores.

    * Harvest and freeze cabbage before the beasties eat all of it. OH will also harvest some potatoes and onions.

    * Go for a run if I get time.

    *Check out how to freeze savoy cabbage. We've harvested it but can't eat it all.

    *Select a new black pen from upstairs. Do not buy a new one!

    Keep fighting, Warriors.

    Morning all :)

    Thanks for the start Ziggy.

    Dentist this morning :eek: No money saving there :(Went ok, and no more expensive than expected. I am thinking of changing practice though, because my 'old' dentist has now retired, and the hygienist I liked has moved on. It seems so chaotic there now. I am a private patient (difficult to get on a NHS list here) so I would have no problem moving. And a practice in this town, as opposed to a neighbouring one, would save a car journey....I will have to think a bit more about it I think!

    Other than that:
    Hoover first floor Not done :o
    Strip off bed and wash linen. Hopefully dry it outside on the line if fine - otherwise on the airer. Done, although it needs to finish off overnight on the airer
    Pick and wash lettuce and radishes from the garden Not done, as I had enough in the fridge for today
    Freeze more French beans Not done this either :o
    HM meals from stores. Steak again today, as I only used one from the pack between the two of us yesterday :) We will have salad with it, to make a change from French beans :rotfl: Done, and apart from the dentist, nothing spent :D
    Make a cake for OH to take away on his annual fishing trip with his mates in progress
    Sort out Euro coins that I have in a pot, so he can take those as well. I must remember to take any notes off him that he has left once he gets back, as he lost a load last time on his way to the post office to change them back into £ :mad: Done
    Stick to diet Done
    Do any surveys that are available Found a couple on onepoll
    Some gardening if it doesn't rain :)Fed the tomatoes, cucumber, courgette, chilli, French beans, blueberry bush and dwarf quince tree

    One more cup of coffee then I had better get ready to go to the dentists :( Wish me luck!
  • Good morning everyone,
    I am hoping for a quiet day today, again. My insomnia is getting to the point where I have a permanent headache. Good job work is still quite far from my mind at the moment. Here's my list for today.
    ;) check banking
    ;) packed lunches for the boys
    ;) boys to footy training
    ;) go through veggies in the fridge and do something with them
    ;) post some eBay sales
    ;) transfer profit from PayPal to vet fund
    ;) 15 mins housework and declutter
    ;) check for surveys, cash back and shopping apps
    ;) find latest statements from creditors and update balances with Stepchange
    ;) 2 loads of washing
    ;) have a nap?????
    Have a good day everyone

    Morning all!

    I suggest no one reads the following whilst eating breakfast! So black bin was due out last night/this morning, so put it out in the dark last night plus remembered kitchen bin was outside from a few days ago as OH said it smelt - realised he hadn't taken the rubbish out of it so whipped that in the black bin too. So this morning I go stick another bit of rubbish in the black bin to find it crawling in maggots!!! YUCK! Quickly check the kitchen bin (which thankfully is still outside) and yep there's maggots in there! I feel itchy and horrible and know I have to face cleaning them later as didn't have time (even if I'd have had the impetus) to clean them before I left for work! I'm hoping that the bin men won't refuse to take it! There is a point to me sharing this horror story not just to put people off their food - does anyone have any suggestions as to how best clean it and make sure its clean? I was going to take them out front first and hose down over the drain.

    So today I have/will:-
    * Check banks
    * Check PayPal
    * Take lunch to work (boiled some eggs that were OOD but did the water test and were fine to eat - so egg salad today)
    * Earn more SBs
    * Earn more on OnePoll
    * Upload wombled receipt to COS for 5p
    * Not go out at lunch to save petrol
    * Go for a run rather than circuits to see how ankle is before wasting my money
    * Dinner from stores
    * Clean out microwave
    * Thrust phone in OH's hand and make him phone sky!
    * Clean out bins
    * Wash hair and let dry naturally
    * More crochet
    * NSD?

    Think that's everything for today. Hope you all have a good day.

    Hi All

    No internet access at home still!

    Defrosted one of the freezers on sunday, dogs still smiling from the freezer burnt bits. Have realised I have lots of food in store and an an official hoarder of food. Sad but true!

    Mr T delivered £46 of food on saturday and I should still be under target GC amount of £250 which i am pleased with as it is a 5 week month, but am horrified at amount in store. I must manage this better. Eggs are also building up and need a serious amount of eating.

    The weekend party went OK. I was very relieved to have it over, no unpleasantness, everyone was friendly, DH had a fabulous day, a friend made a stunning cake and all ended well. I also came under budget, 15 people feed and watered for under £20, but we did have turkey and pork from freezer. Like Christmas but warmer.

    Hope everyone has a good NSD or as cheap as possible day.

    Right back to work for me.

    ps Twiggy, yes, I would hose outside, then swill with bleach, then water again and finally normal clean with whatever product you use and wipe dry. Good luck.

    Hosing it down sounds like a great idea, then plenty of boiling water - if the weather is warm where you are then why not use smaller bin bags (carriers) so you have to empty the bin daily

    Thanks and thanks maria! Thing is I don't actually think it was the bin that smelt but the different dog food we had!

    Twiggy - yes, I second what Maria & Ziggy have suggested for your bins. I know its horrible to find maggots, but the alternative can actually be worse. Years ago, I once went off for a week's holiday & forgot to empty my kitchen bin. When I got home, there was a distinct 'bin-smell' so I lifted the lid to go & empty it & wash it out & yuk, yuk, YUK, out came a swarm of flies!! They'd hatched while I'd been away & it took ages that summer to finally rid the house of them. I even had to buy a fly-spray & I am usually extremely against spraying chemicals around the house & garden. So yes, maggots are vile, but at least they are confined to one place at that stage. NOT a mistake I've made with my kitchen bin again, I hasten to add!
