So.... this evening I was added to a FB (Sigh!) group, the accompanying message read:
"For those of you that know me well, I have been struggling with my weight for years. I am desperate tp get a place on *weightloss group am chosing not to name* to help me to lead a healthier lifestyle and lose my baby belly....the kids need a yummy mummy!!! The problem: it costs £240 which i dont have to spare so im shouting out to my friends to see if you may be able to 'donate' a few quid to help me get skinny and get my mojo back???!!!"
The lady in question earns decent money (high £30ks, so £10k or so more than me) and her husband earns also - Am I right to feel that this is madly cheeky or am I just being a bit selfish!? :money:

Cheeky but she's not making anyone give her money. If you don't want to donate (I wouldn't) why not suggest some weight loss resources that don't cost money?0

Various people have commented on the page, some with costly options, some with free ones - all met with flat out refusal.
....Am thinking that I need a winter coat and the boots that I wanted all last year and was too sensible to buy - Who fancies giving me a tenner?!

People have no shame begging any longer. Doesn't matter that you can afford it, charity starts at home! Honestly, some people really have no pride?
Then again, so open for funny comebacks! I would have told her that she could have it £1 at a time if she ran to my house in under x minutes decreasing it each week until she got to the point when she didn't need the money any longer and could in turn do a good deed and give it to someone who needed it!0 -

Sorry, I don't know much about this but how do you, without your agreement, get added to someone else's group on Facebook?0

FBaby, loving that idea!
Just don't know what goes on in people's heads!0 -
Won't let me quote - Yes, there is an "add people to group" tab0
-
When that fails she will be crowd-funding for her gastric-bypass op ...... then to be followed by begging letters as she will need money for the tummy tuck ...... and the new clothes because none of hers fit.0

Yes you can ignore these, or leave the group or whatever but the point is that these begging emails/posts/pages are becoming increasingly common and it's annoying and I just don't get it.
I've seen people crowdfunding for IVF treatment, crowdfunding for a holiday, I even came across a couple who were crowdfunding for 100k as a deposit for a house because buying in London is so difficult. I'm well aware it is but never in a million years would I have asked the general public to help me buy my house.
I don't mind being open with my finances with anyone and everyone, but I would be embarrassed to admit to my friends that I couldn't afford £240 for a fat camp, especially if I was earning not far off 40k.0 -
What a chuffing goshdarned flippin' ruddy smegging cheek!
So many people beg for money on fakebook and fund me dot com or whatever it is, and quite often, it is simply NOT justified! 'Gimme some money for my WEIGHT LOSS' is just unbelievable!
I can't even............ :mad:cooeeeeeeeee :j :wave:0
