Cancelled flights

I had a similar problem earlier this month when my flight from eindhoven to stansted was cancelled due to a technical fault with the plane that could not be repaired. they left us waiting for almost 3 hours at the departure gate before informing us of this, and there was only an hour until the airport closed for the night.
we all had to queue up and rebook our flights for the next day.
a woman in her mid fifties was told that there were no flights available for the next day and that she had to wait until the day after that for a flight, unless she wanted to gety to antwerp and then fly to gerona and then back to stansted from there. she had no money for a hotel and was told she could not sleep in the airport. she had to sleep outside all night on a bench with some other passengers in the same situation.
ryanair informed certain passengers (those who'd had priority boarding) that they could claim back the costs of a hotel for the night. yet, when i checked on the site, the priority boarding info says nothing of such 'perks'.
i had to pay another 36 euros for my train fare to and from den haag again, and i missed a day's work as a result, but i doubt i'll be able to claim for that as Ryanair will pull the whole 'unforeseen safety problems/extraordinary circumstances' thing, i'm sure.
it has put me off of flying with them again, definitely. and of using eindhoven airport (as the staff were quite rude and unsympathetic too).0 -
The article states that technical problems are covered - you have nothing to lose and the airline can face a large fine per passenger if they don't cough up. Nothing to lose by submitting a claim - read the article and go for it, let us know how it goes!I had a similar problem earlier this month when my flight from eindhoven to stansted was cancelled due to a technical fault with the plane that could not be repaired. they left us waiting for almost 3 hours at the departure gate before informing us of this, and there was only an hour until the airport closed for the night.

Whilst the article says that, the regulations don't.
Still worth claiming though. Given that it's Ryanair I wouldn't hold out much hope that they'll even acknowledge receiving your claim0 -
Unfortunately you do (well may anyway) have to take into account what the aircraft was doing earlier in the day:markameggy wrote: »Thanks for the different point of view,
the only thing i can argue with is:
If my flight (the incoming one) has departed late,i dont think i have to take it into account if it was delayed before during the day for some problems...
they could have sent another aircraft to do the flight.
I dont think anyone should care that your flight was cancelled because another flight (same aircraft or different one,it doesnt matter) went tech.
Anyway,i wrote a letter asking for a cheque for 500 euro,if i get it you two are my guest for a beer
:beer:
Extraordinary circumstances should be deemed to exist where the impact of an air traffic management decision in relation to a particular aircraft on a particular day gives rise to a long delay, an overnight delay, or the cancellation of one or more flights by that aircraft, even though all reasonable measures had been taken by the air carrier concerned to avoid the delays or cancellations.
Good luck with your claim though.0 -
Thanks for pointing that out (don't shoot this little crab, he simply read from the article!!Whilst the article says that, the regulations don't.

I've copied the post into the discussion area for that article to be picked up by one of the team when the article is updated

There seems to be some general confusion about the 'extraordinary circumstances' exclusion, this can only be used to avoid payment of the compensation, not the refreshments, hotels, etc.
In fact, Ryanair's own 'notice of your rights' document www.ryanair.com/site/FAQS/docs/EU261.pdf, which we were finally given at the airport after insisting on a copy (even though every passenger should receive one when the flight is cancelled), shows that they will pay expenses:
'3. RIGHT TO CARE
If you are involuntarily denied boarding or if your flight is cancelled or delayed by more than 2 hours
we will offer you, free of charge:
(a) meals and refreshments in a reasonable relation to the waiting time;
(b) two telephone calls, telex or fax messages or e-mails;
(c) hotel accommodation in cases where a stay of one or more nights becomes necessary, or
where a stay additional to that intended by you becomes necessary;
(d) transport between the airport and place of accommodation (hotel or other).
If your flight is delayed as specified under ‘Flight Delays’ above or you elect to be transferred or re-routed to
your final destination at the earliest opportunity following a flight cancellation, we will offer you items (a)
and (b) above. If in such cases the new time of departure is reasonably expected to be at least the day after
the original time of departure, we will also offer you items (c) and (d) above. Where it is not feasible for
Ryanair to arrange the care set out in this paragraph above, Ryanair will reimburse you for your reasonable
receipted expenses upon application to: Ryanair Compensation Department, Dublin Airport, Co. Dublin,
Ireland.'
This doesn't get away from the fact that no help is offered at the time of cancellation, which is when it is most required.

If you click on the link in my post above, you need to remove the bracket at the end for it to work!0

I tried that but it still puts the ')' at the end, even though it doesn't show in the post.0
