Cancelled flights

Hi all moneysavers,
i was just wondering maybe someone could help me...
i had my flight cancelled 10th of August from TUF (Tours) to STN (stansted).
The airport staff told me that it was Ryanairs fault as the flight was delayed and they had to close the runway at a certain time so the flight had to divert to Limoges.
At the desk they said i have 3 options: go from Poitiers the same day (in 2,5 hours time,40 seats left),Poitiers next day (5 seats left) or Limoges next day.
I chose Poitiers same day but as its 120km away i had no choice but to go by taxi which was 160 Euro.
At Ryanair ticket desk they confirmed it was Ryanairs fault and gave me an irish address which i should write to....
Does any of you knows if im entitled to a compensation as it was Ryanairs fault that the flight was cancelled?
Does any of you wrote to them already and came back with any success?
Thanks for the help in advance:
Mark

Hi Markameggy
I had a look on the Ryanair website and can see this about cancellations
What happens if my flight is cancelled by Ryanair? If a Ryanair flight is cancelled and no suitable alternative flight is available, we will, upon application, offer a refund of all monies paid in respect of the unused flight sectors on your reservation.
Ryanair does not provide compensation for flights which are delayed or cancelled for reasons beyond Ryanair's control. You may therefore wish to ensure that you have suitable private insurance cover in force to cover such eventualities.
Your rights under EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004 are unaffected so in the case of denied boarding, flight cancellation or a delay in excess of two hours you will be provided at the airport with a written notice setting out the rules for compensation and assistance in line with such Regulation.
Please click here for more information on EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004.
here is the link to the page http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/faqs.php?sect=chg&quest=cancelledflights
It certainly wouldn't help to write a letter in and ask for a reply from a certain date - but not sure you will get anywhere.
Did you have insurance, is there anything in your policy that might help to cover this?
Good luck0 -
Since you accepted an alternative flight it is not a question of compensation. Did the people who arranged your flight tell you to take a taxi? In any case, if they did not provide any transport to your "revised" departure airport you could reasonably expect them to pay the taxi fare. Whether they will or not is an interesting question.0

but according to the link you sent i am entitled to a compensation of 250 euros...at least it worth a try

they told us we have to arrange our own transport, all they can do is to change our ticket as it was ryanair's fault and not theirs....
If anyone has ever had a problem with Ryanair, you know what i talk about...they dont have any representatives at the airports, you cant call them, you cant email them, all you can do is to write to the corporate head office in Dublin by normal post....0 -

I wouldn't be so sure, that document excuses the airlines if:we can prove the cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances which could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measure had been taken. Such circumstances may, in particular, occur in cass of political instability, weather disruptions, security risks, unexpected flight safety problems, strikes, or failure/delay of air traffic control
Now, Ryanair will probably claim the fact the runway was closed is an extraordinary circumstance, beyond their control, it is indeed a flight safety problem, having no runway to land on!
The counter argument to that is that the flight was delayed, and had it been on time the runway would have been open. Then it reverts to why the flight was delayed. Which I imagine would be some sort of technical problem with the aircraft at some point in the day. Which again, a tech aircraft can also count as an unexpected flight safety problem, so again they can wriggle out of it.
The regulations have so many loopholes for the airlines. Worth a letter to Ryanair, don't get your hopes up, let us know how you get on!0 -
Thanks for the different point of view,
the only thing i can argue with is:
If my flight (the incoming one) has departed late,i dont think i have to take it into account if it was delayed before during the day for some problems...
they could have sent another aircraft to do the flight.
I dont think anyone should care that your flight was cancelled because another flight (same aircraft or different one,it doesnt matter) went tech.
Anyway,i wrote a letter asking for a cheque for 500 euro,if i get it you two are my guest for a beer
:beer:I wouldn't be so sure, that document excuses the airlines if:

Hi...
There is this web site
http://www.ryanaircampaign.org/
Also, under EU regs you are entitled to assistance. I can send a copy if u need one.
Good luck.
Best regards,

Hi markameggy,
We were also on that flight, and can't believe the total disregard of the regulations by all concerned. A normal airline would have transported everyone to the diverted flight in Limoges, but that would disrupt their schedule even more wouldn't it? So rather leave 100+ people stranded in Tours without any help and hope they don't know the regulations.
We were rebooked from Nantes the next day, so have sent Ryanair a letter claiming expenses plus the 250 each compensation. It seems they never pay the compensation for whatever reason, so will see what happens.
I'd be interested to hear the outcome of your claim.
Apologies if my post from yesterday appears as well, it's lost in the system somewhere....

Martin's actually written an article on Air Travel Compensation encompassing th EU regulations: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/flight-delays
If they don't pay your compensation they could be subjected to a large fine of 5000 per passenger, so make sure you follow the article and claim your compensation :T0
