Using wrong rail ticket

Why is it always someone else's fault, gone are the days it seems when the respnsibilty is yours0

To the above. Exactly i would have been prevented from boarding. At this point I would have had options to make.
Dizzygran; I'll be blunt, you need to stop going on about what may have happened etc. etc. and take note of the advice I gave you earlier!
I repeat, you may well find yourself in very deep and expensive waters unless you get this sorted properly.
Be it on your own head if you don't accept the fact that you were travelling without a valid ticket, and as such your in the wrong.0 -
Why don't you ignore all advice given on here and do what you want but when eventually it costs you a great deal more than the £28 would have cost you should not then return and whine about it?0

Question:
Did you have to go thrugh ticket barriers, OP? If so, I'm slightly confused. I once picked up the wrong ticket (yes, it was my fault and I admit that) and went to go through the barrier. The barrier beeped at me and I spoke to the guard. He told me it's because my ticket was for a different date.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Leeds station does have ticket barriers, but in my recent experience they can mis-function and you end up having to get waved through at the manned barrier0 -

Dizzygran please listen to harz99 their advice is sound, believe it or not the guard was trying to do you a favour, unless you change your attitude this may turn into a very expensive mistake

Well it seems that thankfully Dizzygran did finally take my advice, and is now receiving good advice from the experts on railforums.co.uk
Maybe we'll here from her again, maybe not. Anyway job done.0 -
As the ticket was not valid for that date, a new ticket, priced at either £28.90 for an Anytime Day Single (SDS) or £40.20 for an Anytime Return (SOR), would need to be purchased...... He said I had 2 option give him almost £30 or he would take my details ...
If you refuse to do so, it becomes a potential criminal matter.
My advice would have been be to pay, and then write to the company enclosing all tickets, and asking if they will consider applying discretion and provide a refund of one of the tickets. There are no guarantees but worth a try.
I would guess that TPE will give you one final chance to pay before bringing a prosecution.
If you only paid £11 you must have held an Advance ticket. Not only does this require you to travel on the date selected, but it also requires you to travel on the specific train. If you catch any other train, the ticket is not valid. The ticket value for that train was £11.
Why would the machine refuse to print the ticket?...as the machine did not refuse to give me an out of date ticket I had no options when I boarded the train.
I don't agree that you had no options once the ticket was printed.
I agree he should not have made that accusation against you, however if he genuinely thought you were re-using a ticket he would have taken down your details for prosecution and would not have given you the opportunity to purchase a ticket....I wish the man had used common sense and said he could clearly see I had just got the ticket rather than accuse me of possible multi use'...
I'm not surprised. On the contrary; I would be surprised if the machine refused to print it. There are various scenarios that I can think of, where the passenger might still wish to collect a ticket that has expired, for example it may be required for an expense claim, a refund claim (e.g. if the train was cancelled), or various other reasons.I'm quite surprised that a machine would print out a ticket 2 days out of that. .
My advice is to pay as soon as possible.0 -
Because they check your ticket before departure. Are you proposing that all railway stations have similar security and ticket checks, where each ticket is checked manually? If so, I would suggest that's a misguided proposal as it would not be appropriate, proportional or sensible. Why cant I get through airport security with an out of date ticket?0 -
I agree that it was an honest mistake, and so you are required to pay the fare. In order to ensure that you remain without a criminal record, the debt needs to be paid.I dont think I fall into that catagory, I had a ticket I mistakenly put in the wrong date, I got my ticket on the 7th from a machine. i am not a common criminal.0
