Using wrong rail ticket

Why cant I get through ariport security with an out of date ticket? What are the chances of me boardinbg a plane with a ticket I bought several days prior and accidentially inputted the wrong date to travel? How far would I have got before some kind person said to me 'sorry ticket out of date' Is it possible I could have boarded a plane?
I know im not going to win but no one will reason its not fair to that someone makes 1 error in life and has to pay because of it.0 -
Most railway stations have no ticket barriers. You walk straight up to the train. If we had airport style security for trains, things would have to change very dramatically. Why cant I get through ariport security with an out of date ticket? Some people receive a much harsher penalty if they get summoned to the Magistrates Court: http://www.bathchronicle.co.uk/Great-Western-prosecutes-13-people-travelling/story-27544139-detail/story.html0 -
I dont think I fall into that catagory, I had a ticket I mistakenly put in the wrong date, I got my ticket on the 7th from a machine. i am not a common criminal.0

Do you really want airport style security at railway stations? Be careful what you wish for.0 -

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, you travelled without a valid ticket and then refused to pay for a valid ticket.
Another person, in a different situation, may say " but I didn't realise it was a 30mph zone officer". Did he/she make a simple mistake or is he/she a common criminal? Either way, they may end up being prosecuted.
You too may end up being prosecuted.0 -
As per above post from Wealdroam.
And your quote from your opening post:
The guard was very unhelpful and quite rude to me. He said I had 2 option give him almost £30 or he would take my details and I would receive word from the train owners I guess. The ticket value for that train was £11. I refused on the principle that I had paid (yes my error putting in wrong date)
This "unhelpful and rude" guard was it appears trying to help you by only charging you for a valid ticket.
But it appears that because YOU made a mistake, you refused this, and you then decided to go down the path of penalty fair costs, which I believe will be more expensive,
It would perhaps been better to acknowledge to yourself it was your mistake, purchase the valid ticket that was offered to you then try and reclaim back from train company with your evidence etcThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -

Sorry but your heading for a very nasty shock unless you change your outlook on this matter!
I suggest as a matter of urgency you register on this site
www.railforums.co.uk
and post on the "Fares" section.
You will receive good advise on what to do there from people who have vast experience in these matters, I sincerely hope you listen and take the advice given!0 -

At an airport you would have been denied boarding and probably lost all your fare including possibly any return trip booked - so a somewhat higher 'penalty'0 -
To the above. Exactly i would have been prevented from boarding. At this point I would have had options to make.0

So if the machine had not printed your ticket I take it you would have then bought a fresh one to let you travel??. If that is the case the ticket {still in the machine} would have been lost to you and no way of getting a refund on it.
No one as far as I read this thread is saying you are a criminal but it is a sad fact that some that use the trains are and no guard or anyone else knows what group you fall into. As stated by others the inspector offered you the chance to buy a valid ticket {no different than if the machine has withheld yours at the start} but you did not.
You have {and I understand this} is this right and has anyone else had this happen, you have had fair replies but are still not happy with the responses and you are entitled to your opinion but it does not change anything, be it error or just trying to get one over on the train company you had an out of date ticket therefore the inspector did his/her job correctly.0
