Don't you use a trailing stop loss in the isa to protect your investment cash ?
I didn't notice that you could but then it is a long term investment so wouldn't be looking to sell if it dropped as it will come back (eventually ... he says nervously ).
I read online at the weekend that Lego would have been a good investment and beats the stock market (or would have, if you bought earlier editions of Lego Star Wars etc and hadn't opened them). The Death Star is still on my wish list

I do but none have dropped far enough to trigger it yet. Unfortunately, all are dropping at around the same rate so about 5% down...
We could get a dead cat bounce, but i'd not bank on it.I have a S&S ISA and it has taken a right battering so can oly guess how the pension is doing - I only bought in April at the end of the tax year and was going to buy in again this tax year - maybe now would be a time to buy this year's ISA and pension to recover as until recently it was doing quite well.

Funny thing with people, when a store has a sale, everyone goes shopping, when the stock market has a sale everyone runs away.Do you mind explaining please - whatever it is , I haven't got it !
Sure, you buy your shares at £5.00 and set a 10% stop loss, so that is 50p, if your shares hit £4.50 you sell and cut your loss.
If the price goes up by 10% to £5.50 you set your trailing stop loss to 2.5% to make sure you lock in any gains, so at £5.25 you would sell.Back to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -

If I understand correctly, you set it to sell your stock automatically if the stock market drops by a certain amount/percentage. I believe it is trailing, as when your investment rises, the stop loss "trigger" moves up (trails) your rise to then lock in your profits.
I am sure someone more knowledgeable will explain it better (and point out if what I have said is wrong!).

Was just in M's to get 4960 points added (From two receipts) when the CS lady said that I was only 40 points away from not being able to add as there is a max of 5000 pts that can be added retrospectively :eek::eek::eek::eek:
Thing is, I wombled a two item receipt on Sat which has 8000 unclaimed points on, so, has anyone actually added more that 5000 points in one go before?....Hope so and she was 'misinformed':o Can't see anything in T&C's but that probably doesn't mean anything anyway!!:beer:
Wow this is an interesting development. Never heard of such a thing.:(" Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

I had a bunch of bananas in my shopping. When he came to scan them, he reached under the till for a small plastic bag to put them in. I told him politely I didn't need a bag for them. He told me that all loose fruit and veg had to be in bags  and proceeded to put them in the bag anyway......
Meanwhile DS2 is at my side telling the SA that they weren't loose, they were in a bunch:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
So I took them out the bag and left the bag in the packing area. SA then says I need to put the bananas back in the bag......for hygiene reasons :rotfl: I ignored him and packed them in my shopping bag. He then picked up the empty bag, scrunched it up and had a moan because it couldn't be used now :rotfl::rotfl: presumably because my unhygienic bananas had contaminated it!
All this time DS2 was still trying to explain his loose/bunch theory to him.
Really do wish I'd bought the watermelon that was the size of a football now :rotfl::rotfl:
What a saddo. Sometimes the miserys that work on the tills are just amazing. And I work in retail myself (own small business) so I feel I can comment." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Indeed Anon, as fine wine, art, gold and other collectibles can make up part of a portfolio.
As for long term investments, well from my own point of view, I buy, hold for divi and sell when the price recovers.
You can keep physical gold within a SIPP ( but it has to be vaulted), I've been looking into this as an alternative.Back to square one, no apg, no comment.0 -
