I can see your point and agree that sometimes you can get better results by dealing directly with the manufacturer. However I thnk that it is correct that the seller can not simply pass the buck onto the manufacturer without both the manufacturer and the purchaser agreeing to this. In general it is up to the seller to liasise with the manufacturer (not the buyer) however, as you rightly say, sometimes too many middlemen simply get in the way of a resolution.

I completely agree, if there was any hassle with the manufacturer it's the retailer's door I'd be banging down and I'd go to the manufacturer of my own volition not because the retailer wanted to pass the buck (in fact that would probably make me force the retailer to adhere to consumer rights out of point of principle).

  • Presumably for the first year the TV is covered by it's manufacturers warrenty (sharp) and the extended warrenty is with currys who promise the engineer out in 2 days thing.
Yes, but when I puchased the item I asked if the 3 year warranty began at the end of the manufacturers warranty and they said "no, this warranty replaces the manufacurers warranty and starts immediately for three years" (from day of purchase). So I rang them first but now they are saying it's the manufacurer who is responsible for repair but the manufacturer is saying that the currys policy is in force so they are responsible!!!
If Sharp are still responsible then I have been sold a 3 year warranty which really only lasts 2 years - do you agree?!!

Extended warrenties are always a bit of a waste of time, although for a lumpy thing like a big LCD telly I can see why you'd want one.

I would say that your 3 year warrenty is just the normal 12 month sharp one with another 2 years of (mastercare?) strapped on?
    The money, Dave...
  • Thanks for your advice superscaper and IvanOpinion I think I will ring Sharp first thing on Monday.

BAT is a branch advice line so the store can state your case and get you sorted out as quickly as possible. As you called on Wednesday (hopefully early on), you should have had engineer on Friday. As this did not occur, Sharp will be fined on your behalf for not living up to their terms of contract to Currys, and most likely a different service company will be used. Quickest way to sort is through branch, but you could try calling again if you want.
  • Thanks jsap, I will ring them too on Monday. After all no one has got back to me so I've got nothing to lose.

    And lack of humour.....

If you have foolishly been lead to believe that childish drivel is "Humour" then you have sadly been lead astray!!!
  • That post was worse than mine.
  • For the last three posters, you really do lead a very sad life if all you have to do is come on here and slate genuine people looking for advice. If you read this thread correctly you will see I didn't start the sarcastic, flippant remarks made. But I am sure going to finish them. I have got the information I was after by the real, genuine members on this forum so no longer have the need to read your silly little schoolboy remarks! Try acting your age in future, people may take you more seriously then!
