My family is in Australia so I've put a couple of holidays on there - one flying out to see them a couple of years ago, and one to fly my mother out to see me. Generally it's 1.5 to 2 yrs between visits, which can be quite difficult as my parents are getting older.
I bought a new laptop on it (half paid off), paid vet bills, some groceries, the odd piece of clothing. I also have 6 yrs of university to pay off and a supplement loan from that time.
That's about it. Doesn't sound like much, but it adds up.

Something I asked my OH when I found out how much he owed on loans and CC's.
There was absolutely nil to show for 100k debt (ok, some of it was charges), no new clothes, new car, no bits and bobs, no nights out, - nothing.
Is he a one off ? Do you have anything that you can look at or say "thats where it went"?
Gambling could of been the reason.Had £80,000 in Savings - All GONE!!! BYE BYE:A Single, 27, Aspie, Gooner :A0 -
Ours was purely everyday living. No holidays, expensive cars. I had another baby, went part time and unfortunately wftc completely messed up our weekly payments. this has now been paid back but we still have £8k of debt. Husband at the time was in a low paid job but not we are able to pay each week against the debt.
So whoever says, "Live beyond their means" isnt always so.:A Tomorrow's just another day - keep smiling0 -
In the end kept ahold of our home when we didn't even have enough coming in to pay the mortgage. Paid all the bills on the credit cards and hoped it would get better.Barclaycard 3800

My personal first debt was due to health tests which are very expensive and a nutritionist for six months and my first car. Cleared all 3k most of that, but I've now upgraded my car so got another £1.4k to clear now.
Parents debt, I think it's just living as others have said and living on a fantasy income from being self employed and a bit delusionalNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -
mine went mostly on crap and living beyond my means, i thought nothing of keeping my cash for going out and sticking the bills on the credit cards
i even applied for a new credit card once just to be able to afford flights and a hotel to go to a european away game to see the footie team i support - luckily the card didnt come in time but it didnt stop me spending on it
nowadays i am in more control of my spending, even tho i am still in debt, its what i would call manageable, and i still stick some things on the cards but if i really put my mind to it i could be debt free in 6 months0 -
Hi Mcsaver,
Already considered the possibility of gambling but found no evidence at all.
Good idea though.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
The credit card statements would show where it went, unless he took it out as cash.
What did your partner say when you asked him?
100k is a lot of money (especially in sterling) to 'misplace'. You need to find out where it went so it doesn't keep happening. I mean no offence, but could he have had a 'habit'? Gambling is another possibility. It would either show up on this credit card statements or there would be likely to be cookies on the pc (if it was online gambling).0
