What did you do with the money?

Something I asked my OH when I found out how much he owed on loans and CC's.

There was absolutely nil to show for 100k debt (ok, some of it was charges), no new clothes, new car, no bits and bobs, no nights out, - nothing.

Is he a one off ? Do you have anything that you can look at or say "thats where it went"?

i don't wear flash clothes or drive so its not gone on that.
had to borrow money to pay for my uni course too, which i hope will be worth it in the end.

Holidays - nothing flash, just budget airlines and cheap apartments. Would spend hours searching for the cheapest flight telling myself I worked hard so deserved a holiday twice a year.
Otherwise, the money just 'went'. Now realise that we wasted it on silly things like pub lunches, shop bought sandwiches for work and books.

Enough cosmetics to make Boots look amaturish. As part of my spending embargo I can't buy anymore make-up until I run out. Based on wearing make-up everyday I reckon it'll be 2020 before I run out of mascara.

  • In my wifes BO it is a local authority dept that dosn't exist. After 3 applications for a BO we where advised to let it happen and then hit back. Procedures have already started and legal beavers are so certain of the case they have agreed to handle it pro bono.

Brown stuff is going to realy hit the whizzy thing in a short while

 I have nothing to show for it either. My partner was earning a really low wage at one point, and we'd use the credit card to pay for our shopping at the end of the month when we had no money left. Of course we could never afford to pay it back. He as also out of work a few times, for no more than a week or so, but who can survive a week or two without money?

Also loans for cars. I realised the loan I had for my first car wasn't really at a great rate, so I changed it at my local bank. They offered an extra few £1,000 on top of that. Which we took. Stupidly. So when we came to sell the car it was worth much less than the loan. We consolidated what we owed into another loan to buy a new car. (Not really a new car, a used car) Eventually we realised we couldn't afford to run a car, so we sold it. The money was nowhere near the amount we owed on the loan.

I've not had a holiday for the last 2 years. I've been wearing the same pair of shoes every day for 4 years! I've not had a haircut for two years. We don't smoke, or drink, or go out. Never really did. Nothing extravagant. I think our basic outgoings were just more than our income. On the advice of CCCS we are now entering into a Trust Deed, which is sort of like bankruptcy. I will never use credit to buy anything with again!!! (well, won't be able to anyway, since our credit rating will be so poor)

no haven't thought abut that, do you mean a pre-payment meter because I found them to be more expensive than not having meter. I don't know how it's so high as all through the winter I was frugal with heating, lighting, use of tumble dryer and dishwasher.

Obviously not enough so am not using dishwasher, hopefully getting rid of fish tank tomorrow, will be more careful when using washing machine, not using tumble dryer expect a few mins for towels, have energy saving lightbulbs in as many rooms as possible.

Anything else? sorry for going off op topic!
