    hello al
tofu on its own is vile (in my opinion). it needs marinating (in soy sauce, blasamic vinegar, oil etc)and also tatses good when well fried say as part of a stir fry.
there are usually recipes on tofu boxes but i think to be enjoyed you have to infuse some flavour in it whatever recipes say.
ive a few good recipes which definitely work- pm me if you want them
cauldron's pre- marinated tofu chunks are delicious but more expensive than the unmarinated stuff

Agree with above - tofu is very bland on its own and you'll need to add a sauce or something to pep it up. I usually cut the block into cubes and fry, then add either sweet chilli sauce, or soy sauce and honey, or whatever.

I then add it to my stirfry.

Another vote for the Cauldron pre-marinated stuff. I love all tofu but the Cauldron stuff is excellent.

I also agree with it being very bland- In fact I refuse to buy and cook it cos it can be quite expensive... I usually wait til we can afford a chinese and then have it with satay sauce :D

You can also use tofu to make "cheesecakes" or quiches which are delicious.

the marinated stuff definitely is much nicer. the firm stuff is time consuming as you often need to press the tofu to get the water out and then it's still soggy and has a yucky rubbery cheese-like texture! the silken is used for desserts.

you can get deep fried chilled tofu in chinese grocers too, that works out cheaper than the cauldron stuff and tastes just as nice when stir fried.

    yep - marinated it is.

Word of caution - tofu is made from soya beans. I gather such a huge proportion of soya beans now contain GM modification that the only way to ensure you arent having GM ingredients when buying soya beans or any food made therefrom (eg tofu) is to buy the organic version.

In my being healthy quest I bought some tofu as it was BOGOF in Waitrose, but other than stir frying it, I don't really know what to do with it!
