I upgraded to Windows 10 but found it would not allow me to get on-line with Google Chrome, Steam, Origin and Uplay, but worked ok with the new Edge browser and Skype so I had to roll back to Windows 8.1 anyone got any ideas why this is happening?

Dunno. What was the reason given? What was the error message?
And while we're here, did you turn off all the "phoning home" stuff?

The error message varied depending on what I was trying to use with Chrome saying something about DNS no internet or something and Origin some other geek speak and steam just saying it couldn't connect to the internet and that I should check my connection which was obviously fine or I wouldn't be able to use Edge, Email or Skype.
As for that phone home stuff I ain't that paranoid so I don't worry about things like that.0 -
Windows 10 defaults to the Edge browser (if you choose express iinstall) somewhere buried deep in settings will be an option to enable other browsers.0

On W10, run internet explorer (it's still there), click the Internet options button, then click the connections tab and report back what's there.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0

Even after enabling chrome as the default browser it made no difference.0 -
So no one has a clue as to what is causing the problem?0

Sounds more like a firewall issue. What security are you using? If you temporarily disable it, do all the programs work (also disable Windows Defender temporarily to check)?Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Already tried disabling the firewall etc making sure that the administrator permissions were in place etc the fact it only seems to be mainly non-Microsoft stuff that is effected did get me thinking, also my son who upgraded his Laptop to W10 doesn't have any such problems so it can't be a router/ISP issue.0

Did you look here ?
It sounds almost like you are running a proxy or VPN but parameters are not being correctly passed. I've seen some malware/hijackers do this.
What antivirus are you using or were using before you upgraded, did you uninstall the antivirus before you upgraded ? It could also be related to web protection and link scanning. Uninstall completely the AV before attempting to upgrade again.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
The only anti virus I have is windows defender which comes with W8.1 and W10, everything works fine until I do the W10 upgrade from W8.1 that's when the problem occurs as soon as my PC loads into W10 for the first time after the upgrade the only way to solve the issue is to rollback to W8.1.
As for the proxy and VPN settings they would be the same as they are in W8.1 ie I don't have them.0
